Hello, everybody. I’ve been told that this is the place—pointless stuff I must share, and all—to introduce myself.
My name is Bill; I’m a writer, and the “HJay” handle is taken from one of my pseudonyms. I started as an SD lurker about a year ago, was then without Internet access for five awful months, and now finally can take the plunge and become active. My very dear friend Siege has long encouraged me to take up this nasty Doper habit; I’ll have to think of some suitable means of vengeance. And I’m looking forward to electronically meeting Polycarp, about whom I’ve heard so very much—all good.
Particular areas of interest include SF, history, and religion. I look forward with keen anticipation to our future meetings of minds!
SF and military history. The military stuff is under the name “H. Jay Riker.” The SF—mostly military SF–is under “William H. Keith” and “Ian Douglas.”
Hi, FairyChatMom. Um . . . no, I wasn’t aware, actually. Let me rummage in my refrigerator here . . . nope . . . nope . . . Um . . . is it okay if it’s gray and fuzzy? . . .
FairyChatMom, that’s not an entirely inaccurate description of HJay’s face!
Now, on to my original long-planned greeting:
He’s here! He’s here!
: Does the happy naked dance around the living room:
For the record folks, HJay is someone I’ve referred to several times on this board, and I’m looking forward to seeing him speak for himself. He’s one of my closest friends and one of the finest people it’s been my privilege to meet. He and his lovely wife got me through this awful winter, so be nice to him, please?
Of course, he’s also the newbie I said I’d be sacrificing to the Mods, and, given this morning’s unfortunate occurences in the BBQ Pit, I think Lynn Bodoni might be in need of a fresh sacrifice. Hmmm. Athame? What athame? Don’t you know I’m Christian?
Bill the only thing which could make me happier than seeing you on the board is seeing you in real life (OK, one other thing, but I won’t mention that here.
Welcome to the funhouse, HJay!! You’re perhaps the person I’ve never met, in person or electronically, that I have heard the most about (thank Siege, of course! ;)) and I’m sorry I wasn’t here when you logged on… just back from a one-week work trip that evolved into three weeks.
Hello, Polycarp! I’ve seen several of your posts while lurking. Love your dissertations on early church history! I’ve been looking forward to meeting you, albeit electronically, for a long time–thank Siege!
Still need to think of a suitable punishment for her unseemly greeting above. Doing a naked happy dance, indeed! Shocking! Simply shocking!
