Does anyone but me think that Sara Ramirez is an odd choice for George’s love interest? It’s like they found the most imposing, masculine actress they could find and paired her with her opposite. The first time they showed her, I assumed part of the story was going to be the other interns ragging on them because he’s so wimpy and she’s so er, “physical” , but now we’re seeing her vulnerable side and I’m having a hard time buying it.
I’m sticking by my bet that she will turn out to have had reassignment surgery.
It never fails to amaze me how frequently people are critical of Grey’s Anatomy because the characters are all conspicuously flawed. For me, this is the main appeal of the show.
I have no idea how the legions of television ensembles of idealized protagonists and simple antagonists consistently hold people’s attention. People aren’t like that.
I like Gray’s Anatomy because it resonates so well with, you know, my actual experience of human creatures. The people that I love best are all deeply flawed. I see them running the same fucked-up, self-sabotaging behaviors again and again – and you really hope they get their stuff sorted out. Everybody has a buttload of issues, and we all find a way to keep it together, anyway.
The day-to-day lives of perfectly adjusted, unambiguously likeable people are fecking dull, aren’t they? In most dramatic series, you can define the initial conditions and practically use a spreadsheet template to vomit out the denouement. Zzzzzz.
Everyone I’ve ever given a rat’s ass about has had a hefty kit-bag of neuroses and unfortunate characteristics attached.
I empathize with these characters because they’re defined in a way that I can relate to, and there’s real dramatic tension. No heroes or villians, but people that seem plausible.
Maybe everyone I know is atypically confused and conflicted, and I am too, but I find the characters on Gray’s Anatomy engaging because they and their problems are more familiar than usual. They seem more real.
She looks only half done.
I also like George’s shorter hair; the actor who plays him was on an episode of Law & Order:CI and he had the short hair (though he had it over his forehead - are they called bangs on guys, too?), and wore glasses. Very cute-geeky.
I hated that unkempt look he had up till now.
I was sort of waiting for Dr. Shepard to tell Shot-In-The-Head Girl’s parents that she could be an organ donor and her heart was a match for Denny. Would have been waaaay too predictable, so I’m glad they didn’t go that route.
I also hope Burke isn’t dead - where was he shot, in the head or shoulder? He was just lying there with his eyes open. He can’t be dead, he’s the best thing about this show.
I’m also hoping everything is resolved tonight. They’ve got two hours to wrap it all up. I hate cliffhangers.
Do we need a new thread for the finale? I hope not but just in case …
The bit at the end with Meredith being called by McDreamy and the Vet was like two people trying to call a dog to see who it likes the most. I hope she turns around and walks away from both.
As cute as Chris O’Donnell is, I find his character a little too needy.
That does it. Meredith Gray is as shallow and as horrible a person as there ever was. “Oh, but the vet has PLANS, you see? Good. Let’s have sex now.”
Bah.
