Grey's Anatomy: WTF? (spoilers)

I don’t know if anyone else is still watching this crazy show. I am, but it’s like eating chips. You know they’re bad for you, but still, you indulge. Anyway, my WTF is about Izzy. Where the hell are they going with this Denny/ghost thing? It seems like he is not really there, since no one else can see him. Alex “walked in” on her in bed with Denny and saw nothing. Is she mentally ill? I always thought she was kind of nutty, and I prefer that storyline, if it’s treated realistically, to a sudden supernatural plotline.

Just had to vent about that. I’d also love spoilers about where this is going, if anyone has them. If they go with “Denny is real but only Izzy can see him” and not a figment of Izzy’s fevered imagination, I’d have to say, the show has not only jumped the shark, it’s jumped the whole damn ocean.

Ha! I am the same way–I don’t know why I watch this show. It’s such cheap, trashy, melodrama and I can’t think of one single character that I actually like. I would have said “Little Grey” before she threw herself at McSteamy tonight.

And even though I LOVE Mary McDonnell, I HATE her new character on this show. I really hope she is not going to become a regular. I would much rather see her in something better.

Regarding the Izzy/Denny thing. This is a total WAG on my part. I have not read any spoilers about upcoming episodes, but rumor has it that Katherine Heigl isn’t all that happy with her role on the show, and that she wants to leave. Now Denny’s ghost shows up and tells Izzy, “I’m here for you” over and over again a couple of episodes ago. I’m thinking that he’s supposed to be an angel and that Izzy is going to be killed off this season.

Tangent, maybe you and I are the last SDMB holdouts still watching this trash. I hope Denny’s not an angel. They’ve never done supernatural on this show before, have they? This seems like a weird departure for them, and not a welcome one IMO. I don’t mind if they kill Izzy off, since she’s terribly annoying, but the angel business is a bit much. I hope she’s just crazy, because that would make Alex 2/2 on psycho love interests.

Well, there was that weird episode where Meredith was “dead” (after falling in the harbor) and she had some sort of near-death experience and Denny’s ghost was involved (along with IIRC, the ghost of that Bomb Squad guy that blew up). But I don’t think there was any evidence when Meredith revived that indicated or proved that Denny’s ghost was real. I don’t remember it all that well, but it does set something of a precedent for Denny=angel.

I wrote off the near-death experience as oxygen deprivation causing hallucinations. But, I just do not trust Shonda Rimes not to sic an angel on us. Grrr. I hope you’re wrong but I fear you’re not.

And while we’re bitching: does EVERYONE in this hospital have to be sleeping with someone else who works in the hospital? None of these people have any friends or romantic interests who aren’t either other staff or former patients. They just keep recombinating in various permutations, with the latest being the inevitable Little Grey/Sloan hookup, the Cristina/Hunt, and the impending Torres/Sadie. God, I wish they’d get out more. It’s downright incestuous. The only two characters with extra-hospital relationships are Bailey and Chief, and they keep getting threatened with divorce for being doctors who work a lot. Whatever.

At least no one will be hooking up with Dr. Dixon.

And I will say, with the addition of Kevin McKidd to the cast, there’s finally some eye candy I can actually appreciate. Never really thought McDreamy or McSteamy were all that.

I guess I gave up on it since I haven’t seen it this season. I think once or twice I turned it on and it was an old repeat. Usually the bf comes over on Thursdays and we watch a DVD. I haven’t really missed it until I heard Kevin McKidd was on it and I’ve been tempted to watch it but I’m afraid watching him have a relationship with one of that dysfunctional crew will turn me off. But what’s his nickname? Does he use his real accent? If he does then I might have to tune in anyway.
I’m voting that Izzy has a brain tumor. It was hinted at long ago when Heigl first made her remarks and the show hushed it all up and said everything was fine, Heigl wasn’t leaving. I think someone leaked something real, she may have been scheduled to have a tumor anyway, but whether or not she survived may have been up in the air.

I think they laid some groundwork for some kind of “Izzy’s crazier than a sh*thouse rat” reveal. Specifically, someone referred to her as “the girl that masturbates all the time”, and her big “I’m having mindblowing sex” speech to Christina. All that’s eventually going to get back to Alex.

And I’m still waiting for some fallout from Dr. Hahn finding out the truth about Denny. I’d really like an episode where the Transplant committee finds out, Izzy loses her license, and the Chief gets fired.

There’s an article on eOnline that says:

She’s ill - the writer of the article says Rimes isn’t spilling the beans on exactly what kind of illness, but best guess is some sort of aneurysm.

Wouldn’t that be “borrowing” a premise from another ABC show

Eli Stone?

I feel bad for Alex. He already said he’s filled his crazy quotient, and now this. And it’s totally unfair to get a guy to agree to be exclusive, then immediately take up with the ghost of your finance.

I’d feel bad for him if he weren’t a complete asshole.

McKidd’s character, Owen Hunt, does not have a nickname yet. He’s an Iraq veteran, a field surgeon, so he uses an American accent. His character is kind of a dick, I have to say, but they’re playing it like his gruff douchiness is a result of PTSD. But he is definitely a treat to look at.

I have to concur with muldoonthief: Izzy should be fired, lose her license, and be ridden out on a rail for the stunt she pulled with Denny. Little Grey and Sadie should be kicked out of the program for their unauthorized and insane appendectomy. It’s ludicrous that Cristina is the only person who was meaningfully punished for that disaster. Why does NO ONE get fired from Seattle Grace no matter what fucked up, illegal, dangerous, selfish thing they do? And then the Chief has the nerve to wonder why their hospital doesn’t have a higher ranking. Maybe because all your doctors are sophomoric, narcissistic nutcases?

Yet still I watch every week. Clearly I am a glutton for punishment.

I am watching Grey’s Anatomy regularly this year for the first time. We watch it for Kevin McKidd. He is a special favorite of my wife’s, ever since Rome (that silly time travel show she forgave him for.)

I am reminded why I stopped watching in the first place: Izzy. She is so annoying and self righteous. Every time she opens her mouth I want to drown her. Frankly, I am no fan of Ms. Heigl’s. I tried to watch Knocked Up and 27 Dresses and she just sucks the life out of everything. I truly don’t understand why she is considered such a hot property.

The rest of the cast is growing on me.

Shark jumpage. That’s the issue.

She’s built like a “classic” 1980’s-90’s supermodel ( very tall, big boobs, but still relatively slim - i.e. a genetic mutant ).

I’m slightly embarrassed to say I watched the first season of Grey’s Anatomy, because its timeslot conveniently immediately preceded something else of higher quality I was watching ( which I can’t quite recall - first season BSG? ). Also because, I admit it, Heigl sorta spins my beanie on a purely physical level.

I haven’t watched a single episode after that first season. But I still open these threads, because just like “For Better Or Worse” threads, they’re often filled with amusing snark. Far as I can tell EVERYBODY is slightly embarassed over watching/having watched this show :D.

Christina laughing was the highlight of the episode for me. I continue to watch, even as the plotlines get more and more ridiculous. Too much eye candy for me not to. Plus there’s Bailey. Bailey rocks.

I was a big Bailey fan too until the episode when her son was crushed under the bookshelf. He was being operated on by Dr. Hahn, and Bailey comes in all needy - “I just want to hold my son’s hand.” Hahn quite correctly boots her ass out. At the end of the episode, Bailey basically threatens Hahn for daring to be a world class thoracic surgeon who refuses to kowtow to a resident. Screw Bailey. Family members aren’t allowed in the OR for a damned good reason. If the genius surgeon who is saving your son’s life wants you out of the room, you leave. You don’t interrupt and delay the surgery because you feel guilty about what you let happen to your son. That final scene should have gone the other way - Hahn reading the riot act to Bailey, and the Chief backing up Hahn 100%.

(And yes, I’m embarrassed I watch this show too. But my wife’s really into it, and even with Kate Walsh’s departure, there’s enough eye candy between Little Grey and Callie to make it worthwhile)

spoilers aplenty from all seasons.

As soon as Izzie cut the LVAD wires I called my sister and said “If Izzie still has a job next season I am never wathcing this show again!!!” and I haven’t missed an episode. It’s a disorder.

In the earlier seasons even when characters were behaving in ways that were completely out of character their lines were still written in an entertaining fashion and I still enjoyed watching, even though ridiculous plots frustrated me.

The surgery scenes are too gorey for me, I don’t care one whit whether Meredith and Derek end up together. Each week I find myself telling my television, “It’s a hospital, not an ark.” How is it that not one of these people can find someone who doesn’t work at Seattle Grace to date or sleep with or rent a house with?

Let’s try and redeem Sloan a little with the sleep deprived daughter of the neuro patient…and then wham, have him sleep with the only person in the Seattle area anyone’s asked him NOT to sleep with (as if it’s any of their business).

Meredith cares about her sister. She doesn’t. She does. No wait, she doens’t.

Why Christina still talks to her at all is beyond me.

I am not really familiar with Kevin McKidd, but I agree he is a nice addition.

As much as I hate the dead Denny lives and walks among us story line I don’t mind looking at Jeffrey Dean Morgan. It would be great if he was on a show I liked and got to play a living guy.

Is it really conceivable that Mary McDonnell’s character, if she managed to complete medical school, would be hired for a position that would let her interact with patients directly?

And yeah, I’ll still watch but I cannot for the life of me figure out WHY!!!

Every woman I know (including myself) watches this show. NONE of us can figure out why.

Ghost Denny needs to leave. Yesterday. I like Mary McDonnell’s character but much of the rest of it was just too over the top. I knew that girl’s sister was going to drop dead the minute she yelled die to her.

They need to stick to plots like Mute Lady gets her voice back. That was not only watchable but well done.

I’m still watching but have missed the last couple of weeks. I have now bookmarked the Television Without Pity site recaps and will go through them then be back to discuss one of my favorite embarrassing indulgences.

Hey, I had to do something when Melrose Place was no longer in convenient syndication times…
