Grey's Anatomy - 9/21

A patient whose husband was adamantly opposed to birth control asked that Addison tie her tubes while she had her open for her c-section. She didn’t want it on her medical records, because she didn’t want her husband to know. Addison (compassionately, but stupidly) agreed, did the tubal ligation, and explained it as a “complication” of the surgery.

Alex, in a fit of moral outrage befitting neither the situation or his character (horrible writing, IMO), told the woman’s husband that he should sue the hospital over this extremely unlikely “complication”, and the woman in question refused Addison’s request to come clean to her husband, thus leaving Addie open to charges of malpractice. (Of course, this being television, it was never actually mentioned again. But still! )

Right. Sorry, I wasn’t clear. I knew that part (thanks anyway, though!) but wanted to know if the malpractice ended up happening (seeing as I didn’t remember mention of it again. Apparently not…

Actually, he was pissed because Addison had pretty much made him her bitch by forcing him to work with her in pediatrics, which he despised. He took the opportunity to get even. Yet another reason to see Alex as a POS. It wasn’t moral outrage; it was immature pouty fit.

Yeah, I was pretty annoyed by the medicine of the show, too. When George was freaking out about dying I yelled out “it’s treatable with antibiotics you doofus!” But George is an adorable widdle puppy so he gets a pass from me.

I registered that there was something wrong with the whole double OO thing but I think I had decided to shut off my brain at that point. I also kept wondering why no vaginal exam on the girls I don’t think you’d have to take the exam to the point of devirginizing the ones who were still virgins because wouldn’t it be freakin’ obvious down there without having to poke around too much? Wouldn’t the mother of the baby be bleeding all over the place and walking funny?

That whole baby thing was actually kind of surprising to me, because we had a similar situation at my high school my ninth grade year. A girl had a baby in a bathroom and left it in a toilet (baby died). There were massive investigations, although we never did find out what had happened.

I have nothing to add to this interesting thread, and for that I am feeling a bit McGuilty…

:Snerk: I keep hearing the song “The Crying Game” when George and Callie are together. I really don’t understand what George sees in her. Her personality is even worse than her looks. The writers need to either end that romance or come up with a convincing reason for the two of them to be together.
I am on the verge of being done with this show. I mean, it’s always been a “chick show” (like a chick-flick, but every week!), but they really layed it on thick and schmaltzy with the Izzy/Denny thing last season. I almost gave it up then. George and Callie or Yang and Burke might be headed in that direction now. And my biggest beef with the whole show is the Meredith/McDreamy thing. It just isn’t convincing at all to me, and I think it has been a glaring error on the part of the writers. Their entire “relationship” consists of hooking up for sex and then feeling guilty about it. We’ve hardly seen any real romance or chemistry between them. The characters talk, talk, talk about how bad Meredith has it for Derrick, but the writers have never shown us a good reason for it. Maybe he’s just really well-hung?

Actually, the writers have repeatedly made a point out of Alex’s rigid morality over telling the truth including his refusal to stand by while other people are lying for a greater good. That’s one reason it was a big deal that he was willing to lie to help the other interns in the season finale.

I felt the second season was much better than the first one. In the first season, there were some episodes I couldn’t even watch because they were so sexist - I can see how women viewers must feel when female characters get marginalized in so many other shows. But in the second season, I felt that the writers realized that with half their cast being men, they needed to give everyone a personality not just the women.

You’re right, of course. But I guess I consider his “truth telling” just more of his assholery, rather than a rigid moral thing. After all, his morality is anything but rigid in any other aspect, and his “honesty” is consistently more hurtful and helpful.

I find this surprising. I think Callie’s one of the most likeable characters on the show. (Much moreso than George; the question, in my eyes, is why she likes him so much.)

What is with all the Addison love on this thread? I just don’t get it. I loathe her. When McDreamy threw her shit out into the rain, I was cheering for him. I know people don’t like McDreamy, and he’s not my favorite character on the show either, but if she really cheated on him for “working too much,” with his best friend, in his house, well, she has gotten everything she deserves in spades. I only wish he hadn’t gotten back together with her, because that was a farce from the get-go. Some things, once broken, can’t be fixed, no matter how hard you try.

BUT, this whole Finn v. McDreamy choice bit is so contrived. Finn is a great guy but there is no way Meredith can realistically pick him. She’s in love with Derek and no amount of logic can push that away. Plus, we know Chris O’Donnell is only a guest star, right?

I feel bad for Izzy. Will she go back to surgery? Or will she live in the house and do something different?

And what is it with doctor shows where all the main characters are screwing other doctors in the same hospital? ER was the same way. It’s kind of annoying. Also, how realistic is it, really?

George landed with Callie after the night of the Horribly Bad Sex with Meredith. I don’t have a problem with them being together. When Callie described to the women how George makes her feel, one of them (Yang?) said something like, “George is someone’s McDreamy.”

I was dragged to the mall yesterday, and saw one of the clothing stores has big posters of Patrick Dempsey and Ellen Pompeno wearing their colthes. Pompeno was almost unrecognizable, compared to how she looks as Meredith every week.

It’s New York and Co, I think, and Ellen actually looks pretty and healthy.

Yes, it was “Oh my gosh…George is her McDreamy.”

So funny…I actually thought of him as the cute resident guy and thought it made perfect sense that the two cutest residents (he and Izzy) would be messing around. So interesting people’s perceptions…

The fact that he’s played by Patrick Dempsey might have something to do with it. Of course, I’m a guy & 99% straight, & if I find him that hot, maybe he’s not really what women want. I dunno. I saw some dumb movie he was in almost 20 years ago, realised he was the gorgeous, & wished I looked like him.

My mom thinks he’s ugly. I just don’t get it.

Why am I necroing this thread? Vanity searching after staying up all night… it may be time to go to bed.
