Grizzly Attack Caught on Camera - Ranger lucky to escape with this life

Grizzly Attack Caught on Camera

Note to self: Bolt all bear traps to bed of truck.

I dunno. Looks like to me that had the trap not fallen on the bear it would have climbed up there, grabbed the ranger by the neck, and ran off into the woods with him.

Ok, revised note to self: Be guy who drives truck.

Better note to self: Be anywhere bears aren’t.

Addendum: Do not take a job whose occupational hazard is “bears.”

Why didn’t the bear just grab the pick-a-nic basket and run!? Silly bear!

Don’t rely on photographers or your friend driving the truck to save you from a grizzly attack.

Grizzly attack caught on camera?!?!

I can’t bear to watch.

Why? Do you think it will bruin your day?

This answers the question about whether a .357 packs enough punch to kill a bear.

This from the comments section sums it up best.

What does Stephen Colbert have to say about this?

But to the Ranger it’s like it happened yesterday, and we should respect that,

I don’t get all the comments, both here and on the site, implying that the rangers were incompetent fools. They stated that in every other bear release they had done, the bear immediately ran off. This time, the door on the cage was not sliding as it should have, but the bear exited and as they started to drive off, the bear turned and tried to grab the ranger, biting his camera that was around his neck and dragging him and the trap off the truck. I’m sure the ranger driving the truck didn’t realize what was happening at first, and the photographer was out of his truck, 50 yards away…not sitting behind the wheel, ready to race forward as one commenter implied he should have. The attack probably lasted a matter of seconds. Why do we expect people to be able to react so quickly? It’s not like they were standing around a tranquilized bear, laughing and drinking beers, goofing off. They were doing everything just as they had in the past, only this time the bear didn’t do his part and run away. It was an accident. I don’t see the reason for the claims of idiocy on the part of the rangers.

One of the things I use my .357 for is to scare off Black Bears. I wonder what type of ammo he was using…

Also, that would be a pretty damn good shot from 50 yards. I wonder if he ran up closer.

I believe Kis, the one who was attacked, unholstered his .357 and shot from point blank range.

Ah, your right…

I read this wrong. Thought Smith stopped photographing and then shot the bear.

Oops.
