I googled.
Outlast has a set of corn cob holders shaped like dashunds.
I checked Amazon - one company has them in the shape of: sharks, red solo cups, piglets, beer cans, french bulldogs, and dachshunds
[re: dachshund corn cob holders]
My daughter bought a set of those for my grand daughter (a 7 year dog fiend). Cute but very, very poor quality. They last for two ears of corn if you are lucky, then break apart or the tines fall out. Not nearly worth the money.
Yeah, I love that but I was in a hurry. Corn water was boiling.
The reason we needed them, was of about 8000 I have purchased, only 4.5 sets could be found and they were wonky.
I’ve since decided some person or persons just don’t give a crap and toss them in the trash.
So until I find some with jingle bells, electronic trackers or big alarms the pickle forks will have to do.
Since that’s my great Grandmothers silver we will be counting them after meals.
Well, tine is money, after all.
Most recently, the toothpicks were with the drink mixers and supplies. I had already looked in the paper supplies, baking accessories, and several other locations without any luck.
But it will be different at the next store.
The toothpicks in stores near me are always near the paper plates and plastic forks and such. I know this because I had to try three or four stores before I found the flat variety.
Why are flat toothpicks hard to find? Sure, the round ones are maybe maybe better for presentation purposes to stick in hors d’oeuvres, but they’re too smooth to hold bacon around a shrimp or a dove breast. And sometimes I just want to pick my teeth.
That’s where they are at my local grocery.
I use the round ones to hold bacon around pieces of chicken liver, which i cook as a treat for myself from time to time. They work fine. The flat ones would also work fine, but my husband buys the round ones. Maybe our store doesn’t sell flat ones?
I use much fancier plastic picks with little nubs on them to clean my teeth. (G.U.M. brand). Or the little reusable plastic pick in my knife if i have something stuck between my teeth. I pretty much only use wooden “toothpicks” to hold food.
I had to ask where the toothpicks were the last time I bought them. Something like two years ago. I thought they would be in the baking section (near the cupcake holders, etc.). But sort of near the paper napkins. Even then they were hard to see among all the other stuff.
(At least the current store has the paper napkins in the same aisle at the other paper products. The previous store had them in the “picnic” aisle.)
I’ve added saltines to my grocery list this week. Which means I will have to do a search. I know they are not in the cracker section. But I can’t remember for sure where they are. Near the cookies?
In my store they are in the aisle with all the canned soups. Just the saltines and oyster crackers. All the other crackers(Ritz, Triscuits, etc) are in the Cracker aisle.
Great responses about toothpicks! These have been exactly the places I guessed I should look. In the store closest to me, they are in the soft drinks aisle…down at the end where the club soda, tonic water, and other mixers are located.
Nicely done, now sit in the corner, or else I’ll need to get a rolled up newspaper.
