Gross nasal question (tmi).

Maybe someone here knows the answer to this. I’ve googled and read all sorts of things trying to figure it out.

I get this weird sort of hard snot plug in the very back of my throat. Sort of down my throat a little. It hurts my throat until I’m able to bring it up. I get it pretty much once every 24 hour period. When it comes up, it’s the size of a fingernail and the shape of a raindrop. It’s the colour of snot-green.

So hard, green, fingernail size, raindrop shaped.

Any ideas?

hydration. You need to drink more water in general, get a humidifier, and try saline nose sprays.
I once had this so bad (coupled with a virus at the time) I couldn’t swallow anything for three days. At that point, I discovered that greasy canned broth was my lifesaver. Those darm mucus plugs were nearly two inches long when I finally coughed them up.

I really don’t drink enough water. I’ll try that.

Let me also suggest a neti pot. It takes a little getting used to, but rinsing out your nose every now and then can make a big difference.

Possibly tonsilliths or tonsil stones?

Sounds like tonsil stones to me. I strongly advice seeing a doctor about it, as there is a small chance it could be something more serious.

Although fingernail sized sounds very large for a tonsil stone. Seriously, get this checked out.

No it’s not tonsil stones. It’s dried snot or mucus or something, stuck in a little indent at the very back of my throat. I know it’s an indent because it’s always the same shape and size.

And they’re green. Like little kid-snot green.

I did have tonsil stones as a kid and holy moly do they stink.
