Grow up, Colibri

Hey, Colibri, I know you once got butthurt (put away the knives pal, it’s only the internet) that I was snarky in some thread a long time ago and now you’ve sanctified your life to nipping at my ankles whenever you can. But in this thread, bump asked a pretty non-GQ appropriate question. I pointed out, fairly succinctly, that this observation of his was due to confirmation bias. Then you made a kind of irrelevant point that I tactfully replied to.

And instead of moving it to IMHO (or even acting like an adult), you instead made a pretty shitty (and snarky, I might point out) remark that commits all of the sins you charge me with. And you did this because you are a bad moderator who can’t refrain from personalizing the administration of the board.

What? You didn’t get modded, you got corrected. Your first post was snarky and useless. His question included exactly the possibility that Colibri offered–“Are women really more prone to being sick?”–and which you either ignored or didn’t know the answer to.

As for butthurt, really? Someone calls you out on a useless response, and you start a thread to complain about it, and you call THEM butthurt?

How is saying “You are succumbing to confirmation bias” a useless post? I know phrasing it as if the OP were coming down with an illness is absolutely* withering* snark (but not so for describing the entire female sex as gimpy, I guess. I’m sure you and Colibri have principled reasons for *that *distinction. I’d love to hear them, by the way.) Do you think confirmation bias doesn’t exist? Do you think it’s not a possibility in the OP of that thread’s case? Could confirmation bias not explain his sentiments?

No, no and no? Then it wasn’t a useless post, my friend.

As to the question **Colibri **raised, I explained in that thread why I think it does not address what the OP of that thread expressed. If you have questions on that point, I’d ask you confine them to that thread.

Also, I want to make clear that a responsible and conscientious moderator would have moved the thread to GD or IMHO. My point here is that Colibri was so interested in getting his potshots in that he forgot to do his job!

Uh huh.

Are you sure you’re not reading too much into the situation?

Yes. Pretty incredible, right? I mean, how irresponsible, ya know? To be so invested in following a poster around and saying “your posts are snarky and stupid” (he’s done this like three times before to me too) that Colibri*** forgot to do his job!*** It’s depraved!!!

If you want to make that clear, have at it. You certainly haven’t made it clear so far.

Rather, what seems clear is that Colibri saw a legitimate question and proposed some actual data to answer it. Whether it’s possible that the OP was succumbing to confirmation bias is irrelevant, since your post did nothing to show that’s what it was; since it showed nothing, merely made a snarky, unsupported allegation, it was useless.

And sure, the snark was rather flaccid and lame; I never said it was good snark.

OK, LHoD, how would you have gone about proving it was confirmation bias if you thought it was? And since when do other poster have to show that? If someone had an OP “Why are black people so loud?”, would someone else have to cite a Nature article demonstrating that black people are no more voluble than others before floating the idea that it was CB?

You’re grasping at straws and you know it. Just admit that Colibri is a bad moderator already.

Taking everything at face value, that is, I don’t know the history (if there is one) between the two of you. I don’t see the problem.
The OP asked a question. Yeah, the title was odd, but the question was fine…why do women seem to get sick more often then men? You suggested it was confirmation bias, Colibri gave you a cite showing that women actually do go to the doctor more often then men.
You then (as I would have) pointed out that the article really didn’t prove or disprove the OP.
I didn’t see anything shitty or snarky about what Colibri did.

So let me ask you this.

How is “Do women get sick more often then men” anything other then a question with a factual answer? and how is colibri’s response shitty?

The shitty response was his second appearance in the thread where he called my first post “useless and snarky” and schoolmarmishly instructed me to have asked the OP to clarify his terms (which was one of the issues with the OP I raised in my second post).

And the OP recall is “Are women gimpier than men.” Which means that if a person showed that men got sick more, the OP would come back and say men get serious illnesses and women get migraines (which the OP identified as a bogus ailment). The whole thing is designed to allow the OP to win by definition. It is a fundamentally dishonest enterprise.

It was at the least, poorly phrased and at the worst, indeed useless. You sound more like you’re upset at being called on it.

Simple: I’d show a site showing that women don’t get sick more often than men, or that women don’t take more sick days than men.

If it’s that important to you for me to admit that you’re right, based on no evidence, feel free to write whatever you need to hear from me, and I’ll quote you on it.

I stand by what I said in the thread.

Have fun, Kimmy.

No, I am upset that Colibri got all pissy about my remark and made a condescending post because of it. It was not poorly phrased, it was not useless; it could not be more apparent that I was saying that the OP of that thread was seeing what he already believed to be the case. Your and LHoD’s mere gainsaying this (“Well, it was useless. So there!”) doesn’t make it so.

Without conceding that point, even if it were, we do not make posts in GQ that do nothing more (haha, talk about “useless”) than express our dissatisfaction with how intellectually nourishing we find another person’s posts.

Seriously, Kimmy, you’re “upset” about what I said? If you’re going to make a career of being snarky to other posters you really need to grow a thicker skin. My remark wasn’t nearly as condescending as yours. Really, get a grip.

Indeed–which is why Colibri brought a cite to a slap-fight. His post added to the conversation. You then objected to it in that thread on no grounds whatsoever, and he offered you a suggestion on how you could be productive. At which point you came over here to complain about him being shitty, him being snarky, and him (heh heh) being butthurt.

Just for the record, I made the posts in question as a poster, and not as a moderator. I took no action as a moderator against Kimmy; I merely commented on his posts, as he had commented on other posts. So the comments about me being a “bad moderator” are kind of irrelevant to this case.

No clarification needed. It was clear that you were not modding.

a big hint for me is the lack of bold moderator note or moderator warning

I have nothing but admiration for Colibri, but in this case I took Kimmy_Gibbler’s comment as being a light hearted riposte, and Colibri’s

as being rather grumpy. Just my opinion. YM obviously does V.

Someone’s butthurt, alright, but it’s not Colibri.
