Watching a KCAL 9 TV report about a pot farm found in the mountains, the anchor read the following: “Authorities said that mexican drug cartels were growing the pot to buy meth labs.”
This seems ridiculous to me. This is just another weak attempt by the fuzz to create a specious link between pot and scary hard drugs. Why in the world would a “cartel” need to raise money? If you are a drug cartel, one of your biggest problems is having too much cash. Besides that, the meth labs I have seen would require less of an investment than an irrigated pot farm out in the wilderness. It’s just a bunch of Homer buckets, tubing and cheap chemicals in a shack, no? It is not like they are setting Phizer for crying out loud. Trailer trash manages to do it without having a hash brownie bake sale, so you are telling me a cartel can’t afford some coffe cans and nyquil or whatever?
Gee, oscifer, don’t you think they might have been growing pot to finance fancy cars and bigscreen TV’s? Nah, that would be too obvious.
When are these guys going to realize that the more they BS the less they are going to be believed? DARE has been shown to actually increase the chances of a teen using drugs, but what the hell, let’s keep it up, it’s good for business all around. We get both the DARE grant and more people to lock up in the future. Win win for the Law Enforcement Industry.
Yeah, it’s just another government attempt to spin the image of pot growers and users into that of a danger and threat to our nation. Whatever
Why am I picturing this whole “buy a meth lab” thing like the purchase of an Authentic Irish Pub Kit? : Don’t know anything about Crystal Meth? Wow is that a hot plate I see? Gotta sell a lot of pot to buy one of those! And look at all these epensive supplies, Red Devil Lye, camp fuel, why you’d have to sell many pounds of weed to afford all that. Do you see why I am calling BS on this claim? Or do you guys just want to keep cracking wise?
You seem to be under the misapprehension that these are two mutually exclusive activities. The folks in this thread “cracking wise” are doing so precisely because the claims you are pitting are so transparently preposterous that they don’t even deserve a serious response.
Everyone knows that pot doesn’t cause the manufacture of hard drugs, it causes the uncontrollable urge to murder. Or at least uncontrollable giggling.
There was a series of ads awhile back which suggested that buying weed is funding terrorism, through some specious reasoning. Anti-drug education is done a great disservice by these types of “education” like in the OP.
So you actually believe the LEO’s assertion that the pot farm’s purpose was to fund the construction of meth labs? I would like to see some evidence of that. Of course, none was presented. I feel like the guy in this cartoon. Enjoy your “watchdog” media, that lets patently ridiculous claims like this pass to the public unchallenged. More like lapdogs.
Sweetie, I think your sarcasm meter is broken. No one, but no one in this thread thinks it’s likely that they were growing pot to buy a meth lab. The idea is absurd. It’s so absurd that it’s really, really hard to get worked up about it. Especially when the couch is sooooo comfy…
Here, smoke some of this. It’ll make you feel better.
The next big thing in meth labs is “superlabs” out of Mexico, which dwarf our teeny little trailer labs. I can see one of those requiring some investment capital.
