Grr Jurassic Park 3! **spoilers*

So I went and saw it tonight. It didn’t hit me like the 1st one did. But I really enjoyed it. But I was dissappointed at the length of the movie. Very short. But hey… HOw long can you drag out people being eaten and chased by dinosaurs. The whole thing “family” thing was good. IT wasn’t overly dramatic. Like the movie didn’t turn all sappy and stuf…

Any other comments??

Wasn’t as good as the first (Which I’d rate as an “okay” movie, but not really that good), but a liiiiitle better than the second. None, of course, were as good as the books.

It would have been easily better than the second if it weren’t for this uneasy “hokiness” feeling that would crop up every now and then. Tiny stuff that just doesn’t seem right… Or stuff that’s obviously not right (The cell phone. Not only immune to acid, but with a ringer that would put that damn car alarm in the middle of the parking lot to shame).

The dinos, in general, looked better in the second, I think. It seems kinda surprising, special effects usually get better, but they seemed to be a little “less real” than in #2. There were a couple scenes where it just didn’t look right… Too bad, I really liked that little tuft along the back of the raptor’s heads. I’ve always loved that look

But at least, for once, they went in with decent weaponry. That Barrett and the assault rifles were a good choice compared to the pair of shotguns of #1 and the handfull of HK91s of #2. Minor hijack, though: What gun was that? My friend says they said it was a 20mm, but it looked almost exactly like a Barrett M90, except with some funky muzzle attatchment instead of the normal muzzle brake, and it looked semi-auto (Didn’t get a good view of the action). Any idea? I’m the gun-IDer among my friends, and it’ll hurt my reputation if I don’t correct my mis-diagnosis of a M82A2

In any case, .50 or 20mm, they managed to pack enough high explosives in those rounds to match a 40mm grenade (As demonstrated on their test-target; A derelict plane). But I heard at least 6-8 shots at that spinosaur. I suppose he may have missed, but how do you miss something the size of a HOUSE?? And if he DID hit, then we’ve got another example of movie physics; Weapons change properties soley dependant on their impact upon the plot.

Oh, and one of those “thank god” kind of things; They found a kid that WASN’T AN ANNOYING TWIT! Yes, a kid that could actually do a decent job. It’s about damn time

Overall… I’d give it a 6-6.5 out of 10. I went to see it for cool dinos, instead of imagining it might have any plot. Ironically, the dinos didn’t look as good as I was expecting, and the plot was better than I was expecting, though still below what I’d expect of a good movie. If you like dinos, or just need an action movie, it might be worth it, but I’d recommend matine showings. If you want a movie that’s good on its own, don’t count on it

The Barrett M90 in the movie is .50 calibre semi-automatic firing from a 10-round box magazine. They just said it was 20mm. I was talking to the bomb disposal unit at Edwards AFB and they said it could only be fired from a bipod or tripod because of the killer recoil.

Johnny, that is Phoenix Dragon’s point. The Barnett M90 is a bull pup design bolt action rifle with a 5 round magazine. The M82 is the standard design semiautomatic rifle with a ten round magazine.

I liked it. I liked how the raptors could communicate to each other. My friends and I were supplying dialogue. I thought the human characters were good, too, and not as annoying as the ones in the second movie.

Some things did irk me, though. The Spinosaurus was wrong. Whenever the cell phone went off, I kept thinking it was a cell phone in the theater. Too many “deja vu” moments from the first movie. And the fact that the T-Rex was short lived. I would have enjoyed to see more of it, but I suppose they ran that dinosaur into the ground with the first two movies.

One nitpick, though. When Alan was dreaming about the raptor talking to him, the raptor looked exactly like the ones in the movie, but Alan had never seen those kinds. The last raptors he saw were the ones from the first movie, which were grey/brown, not speckled with mohawks. But then, I could be mistaken. That moment only lasted a few seconds.
