Gruden GONE!

They kicked him to the curb!!!
Please fix the spelling in the thread title?

Not surprising. He got lucky his first season because he inherited the good team that Tony Dungy constructed, and then was given the gift of playing in the Super Bowl against his former team, so he was able to dissect their every play.

Since then it’s been a steady stream of mediocrity.

Who?

Can’t say it is surprising, but I liked Gruden so I am a bit sad.

That logic is a little confusing to me. Yes, he inherited Tony Dungy’s team… but the team that Gruden did construct was also in that year’s Super Bowl. Plus, I believe that if it weren’t for that bogus “tuck rule” incident, that Raider would have gone to the Super Bowl, too.

That said, it’s not very surprising that he got the axe, because of the Bucs absolute meltdown at the end of this season. I think he’s still a good coach, though, and I think a change of scenery will probably do him good. Do the Raiders have a coach yet? I wonder if Gruden and Al Davis could come to a reconcilliation…

I would love it if Gruden came back to the Raiders, but I think I have a better chance of being the Raiders Head Coach next season than Gruden does.

I totally agree. I would LOVE to see Gruden back in Oakland, but I am less pessimistic than you. Remember, Al Davis is bat-shit crazy and he loves winning. The last time the Raiders won was with chucky at the helm…

Frankly I think Tampa is crazy to fire him. I think their team totally overachieved this year. They went 9-7 with 1 above average wide receiver, no running backs, and JEFF GARCIA running the show. That sounds like a 6 win team at best.

Jon Gruden was not just the coach, but also the manager and partnered with Bruce Allen. If they didn’t have a team that was better than a six win team, then it is mainly his fault. The guy is a prick, so good riddance to him and Bruce Allen, who is maybe a bigger prick.

Raheem Morris, who was early named to replace Monte Kiffin, has been named as the new head coach. Kind of a weird move by the Glazers; I hope it works out.

I like Gruden and am sorry to see him go. But of course, I’m a Steelers fan, so it won’t matter to my team in the end.
