I always thought the saying was “shoe-in”…
any thoughts??
I thought it was “Shoo”, as in " Shoo fly". To Shoo is to move along, or propel forwards, as in " As the sweaty masses were shooed through the rough-hewn doorway, those already seated on the oak benches could see the delectable Lady Throckmorton, reclined on the dentist’s chair, heels quite rounded, holding her ‘Roget’s Thesaurus’ in one hand, and a glass of port in the other".
ON the other hand, perhaps it's Shoe, as in to shoe-horn in a winner? Hmmmm. Well, nothing like a little mild dirty writing to perk up an otherwise dusty posting. But, it was also my best WAG. Anyone out there have a definitive quote??
