I did not like it. The villain wasn’t interesting, the storyline wasn’t interesting, the “daddy issues” scenes were boring, Nebula really had no interesting role in the story, and even the music was not as good as in the first movie.
The only thing holding this movie were the quirky characters and some funny one-liners. Otherwise, a terrible movie.
FYI, I’d give the first one a 7.5/10 and this one a 3/10.
I get that Ego aged his human avatar to make it less confusing for Peter, but if the tableaux are to benefit he took the same human form on every planet, even if the locals had purple skin or tentacles. Did anyone find that strange?
Probably metaphorical, since the images wouldn’t have meant much to Quill (and to use the viewers) if it was a series of two identical creatures embracing.
I’m surprised there hasn’t been any comments on how great the young Kurt Russell effect was, we’ve come pretty far in the seven years since Tron Legacy.
I kept thinking, “Man, your mother had really shitty taste in music”. Would it have killed them to include “Another Girl, Another Planet” by The Only Ones?
I keep seeing in reviews and comments online that people are assuming the scene with Sylvester Stallone at the end is actually setting up a movie. That can’t be true can it? I assumed they were just having fun with the cameos. Why would Marvel dilute the product with a second Guardians of the Galaxy team that seems worse? They wouldn’t.
Deadpool was every bit of funny as it thought it was. I was laughing hysterically throughout the movie.
As for GotG, I saw it this morning with my 11 year old daughter in IMAX 3D. The 3D effects were better than I expected, but I don’t think I’ve seen one in IMAX before. The Ravager death scene was too much, but otherwise we both enjoyed it. I give a firm lead to the original but it was a good sophomore effort.
I did enjoy the Howard the Duck cameos, but I loved the 1986 movie, specifically Lea Thompson in her underwear.
Gunn (and Feige, presumably) is planning for the future, beyond GotG3 and the Infinity War movies.
It seems likely that the Guardians will anchor a series of “cosmic” movies, just like the Avengers anchor a series of Earthbound movies. And with the star power of Stallone, Yeoh, Rhames, and even Rosenbaum, I think it’s very unlikely they were planning for that to just be fun cameos as an easter egg.
I saw it this morning and enjoyed it immensely, but there was a line during Yondu’s funeral that I didn’t quite catch, an exchange between Stallone’s character and his second about “he <something something> understand”. Did anyone catch that?
