Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 - seen it. (Open spoilers)

I’ve lost track of the cosmology in the MCU by this point. Was it the Kree that created the Inhumans? Were the Chitauri supposed to be Skrulls or are the Skrulls a separate alien race that has yet to appear (subject to licensing agreements)? And I’m not sure how Thanos and Dormammu fit in.

According to Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. the Kree created the Inhumans and served as the source of genetic material for the T.A.H.I.T.I. resurrection program. That show (and the other ABC and Netflix Marvel shows, including an upcoming ABC Studios Inhumans show) are ostensibly are within the same overall Marvel Cinematic Universe, but while the shows make various mentions or plot references to the film continuity, the films basically don’t acknowledge any plot developments that occur in the shows, and the production team for Marvel Studios (film production) versus Marvel Television (a division of Marvel Entertainment) are completely different. Marvel Studios has removed an Inhumans film from the MCU Phase 3 lineup and while they haven’t said that they won’t ever make the film, it is unlikely to have direct continuity with the television productions.

The Chitauri (deployed by Thanos at Loki’s request in the Battle of New York in The Avengers) appear to be basically stormtroopers in the MCU, with not much in the way of volition or their own motivations. No mention of Skrulls so far but if they show up anywhere it would make sense to have them appear in the upcoming Captain Marvel film.

Yes

They’re seperate. Skrulls may or may not appear, depending on licencing, I think they’re tied to the FF or X universes

They both seem pretty much in line with their comic selves (well, we’ve not seen Thanos in action, but everyone seems to treat him like a big deal)

IIRC, Ego mentioned that Peter will be normal if Ego’s planet is destroyed. Ego himself had to go back to the planet occasionally to “recharge” himself.

I’m surprised we haven’t seen any of the Badoon yet since they’re so tightly tied in with the origin of the original Guardians of the Galaxy

Quill had never been there when he held an Infinity Stone. And Ego doesn’t exactly have a reputation for unbridled honesty.

Stranger

No, but potential to wield outside power ( i.e. roughly manipulate an Infinity Stone ) is not the same as having internal power. Quill may be hamstrung cast on his own resources, but give him some powerful artifact ( say Nega-Bands or Quantum Bands ) and perhaps he’d be more than usually powerful.

And thus he would not be “like everybody else”.

I assumed that Ego was actually being sincere when he told Peter that Meredith was who taught him to actually love, and that therefore their mating was “special”. And, hence, Peter was also.

Although Ego lied about stuff, most of what he told Peter about Meredith was backed up by flashbacks, which would seem to indicate that the audience is intended to take that part of the story as accurate.

Presumably Peter had a “spark” from Ego inside of him from birth…presumably it no longer exists because the source of the spark is gone.

I’d give it an 8/10 “walking out the door” score.

I thought it started with a fantastic opening credits sequence, went downhill rapidly from there but survived on the strength of the characters and then finished strong, although on a very down beat.

Gamora’s makeup looked different to me, but I’d have to see stills to say if if the areas around her eyes were made up differently or not for sure. A lot of the humor, like a lot of the soundtrack, seemed like they were trying a little too hard to be the same sort of thing as they were the first time.

I loved the continually changing references to Rocket as different animals; I thought that was a good running gag because they didn’t beat us over the head with it by having anyone, even Rocket, point it out after it kept going on and on; the characters just rolled with it.

I thought Kurt Russell was awesome as Ego. I thought Stallone nailed it. Dave Bautista was perfect. Vin Diesel continues to show a range previously unseen in his portrayal of Groot.

The best thing about the movie, tho, was the look. It looked awesome. Fantastic framing, colors and details. I can’t wait to get this on 4K BR.

Oh, there’s lots to criticize. It isn’t a perfect film (lots has been covered in this thread) but… There was a moment in the last big fight scene, maybe it was the Pac-man moment but I think it was something more mundane than that, where I realized that off all the Marvel movies, of all the franchises, GotG is the one that can just be fun because the whole thing is so outlandish to begin with, and that’s what the movie was doing by inserting this little comedic bit that defied all laws of physics and reality: they were just having fun, giving us a cartoon-y moment. (Yeah, later I came to realize that the whole “700 jumps” bits were also Looney Tunes shoutouts; there are prolly more.)

I am looking forward to repeat viewings and hope that there’s enough still to notice that my opinion of this film goes up and not down.

Oh, and I agree that there were far too many end scenes and that setting up the next film isn’t necessary (or welcome, really, IMO).

I haven’t seen a credits scene yet that was necessary, in the sense that it contained necessary information for understanding any subsequent movie. They’re a fun Easter egg for people who like them. If that’s not you, there’s no reason to stay for them.

Snowboarder Bo
I’m pretty sure they softened Gamora’s cheeks in this one, they had more of an edge in vol. 1

Trash panda, fuckin’ loved it.

I’m not fond of the new opening logo, the fluttering comic pages that resolved into Marvel was way cool, now it’s just pretty headshots.

Um… thanks for the commentary? WTF?

You’re the one who said that the credit stingers were neither welcome nor necessary. If you don’t like them, why do you feel obliged to stay for them?

He wants to go throw them in the quarry.

Stranger

That’s ok. It’ll give Trash Panda something to rummage through.

I love stingers in general. I especially love that there were so many of them in GotGv2 - infinitely preferable to waiting through eight minutes of credits for a 15-second scene.

The credits themselves were also really well done and entertaining to watch on their own merits.

No, I didn’t say that. Are you sure you read what I wrote and not what some other poster wrote?

You didn’t write this?
