Lynch! :smack:
The Marx Brothers?
Good Get!!!
Oh, and **Zeldar ** and 5-4 Fighting 's guesses are all correct. Well played!
That leaves:
Allan Chevy (try generic)
Andy Large (sports figure)
David Barcelona (Spain was on the right track)
Jean Valjean’s favorite . . . just kidding.
- Take care of and with.
- Vocal celebration during a particular season.
- If you hear thundering hooves, it’s probably not a herd of zebras.
- If you get this one, you can toot your own horn (I’m as good with clues as you are.)
Right on Marx and Lynch
As far as I can tell, these were unguessed (at least correctly) as of 5:21 p.m. today:
Post #9: Steve Sax (baseball player), Lee De Forest (vacuum tube inventor)
Post #57: David Seville (Chipmunks guy)
Post #94: Maureen McCormick (and of course it’s always her, never Eve Repair Faucets)
- Marsalis (BTW, you mixed up the names–it’s Wynton and Brantford)
Nice clues. Maybe I just don’t know the people.
I’ll shoot for Diahann Carroll (sp?), though, more from the clue
Trying to connect czar and a thundering herd is hurting my head
You are correct, sir!
Louis had been answered earlier but you get the star for Diana.
Allan Carr.
5-4-Fighting: If you’re thinking of Marsalis, there are two brothers, Wynton and Branford, whose names you’ve conflated into “Winford”.
**Sternvogel ** is correct on Carr.
-
Carroll is right.
-
Just remember it’s right in front of you, that’s the gospel truth. I also meant do say my clues are not as good as yours.
To all who corrected me on the name conflation – D’oh and :smack: .
Sternvogel is correct on Maureen McCormick.
Don’t think anybody got this one either:
Maybe Brian Jones?
Please allow me to see my own stupidity and tell me about the Czar chick. All I seem to be able to get is Peters, Ivans, Terribles, Alexanders and that sort of thing. None of that goes with any Shirley I’m familiar with.
Shirley Jones
Shirley MacLaine (sp?)
Shirley Horn
You don’t mean Molly Ivins do you?
Clue: Shirley Czar.
Thesaurus.com shows Czar and Caesar as synonyms. Therefore, clues were:
- If you hear thundering hooves, it’s probably not a herd of zebras (it’s simpler than you think).
- Just remember it’s right in front of you, that’s the gospel truth.
Answer: Shirley Caesar is a famous gospel singer (also first listed with two other gospel singers).
I know there was some logic in what I posted, but perhaps I failed at getting it across.
You get points for guessing Molly Ivins is her sister though and that Shirley sang at her funeral.
Beautiful clues – right level of giveaway and still cryptic – but I don’t know of the gal. That’s likely true of the others I haven’t been able to get.
Thanks for the terrific explanation.
I’m just now seeing the Ivins addition to your comments (must have added that after I started my response). That is spooky!
Since I killed your thread:
Glenn Flossworker
Harry Meathead
Margaret Carbohydrate
Dan Ambivalent
Anderson Barrelmaker
Barbara Threebrennans
Shirley Cannibismound
Shirley Fiends
Diane Boy.
