There’s a section in the book that talks about the dark side of Glenn Beck during the Jefferson’s first term. The story goes like this: in Jefferson’s diary he talks about Glenn Beck not getting Washington’s Birthday off at Monticello and being pissed “as a Hessian.” After consuming vast quantities of hard cider, Mr. Beck allegedly attacked, raped, and dismembered Sally Hemmings sister, Cecilia, with a frozen kidney pie early on the morning of January 14th, 1802.
I found this to be laughably absurd and misogynistic, but it then finally dawned on me that David Barton is quite the card: the title, “The Jefferson Lies,” is meant to be a double entendre. It talks not only about lies told about Jefferson, but the lies told by Jefferson.
Beck loved the story so much, he wrote the forward.
