Finally I got a new van!!! YIPPEEE!!! I got rid of my old albatross (so called because it was depreciating faster than I could pay it off) and got a (new to me) minivan. I traded in my '95 Dodge Grand Caravan SE for a '98 Dodge Caravan Sport Edition. It has 4 doors, power almost everything, ABS, runs like a dream, is a very pretty medium spring or kelly green, and is a 6cyl, 3.3l engine. Most of the short base caravans are now a smaller 4cyl engine, which IMO have little to no get-up-and-go.
Even the price was good. Adding in the negative equity (read:loss) from my '95, the sales tax, etc, and the extended service warranty, I’m still only financing around $19k, after my downpayment of $1k. All in all, a good deal.
And, best of all, I did it on my own, with hubby way over in UAE still. Sigh He’ll be home on 18 May for 2 weeks, and he likes the sound of it so far.
I have to go run some errands with my kids, and I’ll be back in a couple of hours to check on this. I just am so excited, I couldn’t wait to tell everyone about it!!
Congrats, purplebear! We don’t have a minivan, but we do have a MONSTER Ford Econoline. Vans are good, if you’ve got stuff to haul. Have fun looking at the tops of everyone’s cars!
I’ll bet he does. “If the van is a rockin’, don’t bother knockin’!” heh. Couldn’t resit. Sorry.
It was a great feeling ditching my POS for the Honda I’m driving now. I’ve had her for almost a year, she’s about 65% paid off, and she still runs like a dream.
Thanks to all of you kind enough to post to this. As for you lurkers… Thanks for looking!
Yes, my purplecubs like the new van, they even like the color, though it’s not blue, as my daughter says.
Yes, they are great for looking at the tops of other cars, and for seeing down the road ahead. This is my third minivan in a row, and I have no intentions of going back to a car again.
Seale, you naughty boy!! Hehehehehe! No comment! :o
I’ll see you next weekend in Houston for the Dopers get together. I may even bring along a friend who doesn’t even lurk. Yet.
I will indeed watch out for those pesky Dings, aha.
I agree, minivans rule.
I was getting very desperate for a new vehicle, Shayna, that is why I took the loss on the old van. It was the old body style, and had gone over 90,000 miles, both death to trade-in allowances.
Again, thanks to all of you kind enough to post to my new thread tonight. I am very happy!!!
Ayesha, I will be at both of them, provided I don’t get lost getting there. Just kidding, I haven’t gotten lost in over 20 years. I am looking forward to meeting everyone who shows. I intend to have a great time!
Well having first hand knowldge, PB may not have been lost, but she has from time to time, been shall we say more than slightly disoreinted!
Just so there is no misunderstanding, I know she is just window shopping, I know this becuase I window shop too.
and btw if you do see the van a rockin (any time from 18 may to 3 jun) DON’T COME A KNOCKN (we won’t answer!)
HEY!! Honey, I resem…I mean resent that remark!!
And it was only because you distracted me…
Window shopping. Sure, dear. Right. That’s all I ever do, except when you’re not with me…
IF??? Why, honey, whatever do you mean? I would never do anything to make the van rock!!
Well, maybe that one time when…oops, never mind! :o
Counting the days, my love…
