Guest MMP III: Hell's Wedding (Abridged)

Last night, I went to leave work, and I couldn’t, because my stupid car battery died. I got some assistance from a coworker, and everything started up fine, but rather than bring the car in for service at oh-God-hundred this morning, I opted to sleep late. The car still started fine, but I’ve noticed that my automatic window controls are wonky. I can still make the window go up and down, but I can’t make it go all the way with one touch of a button. So, now it appears that I’ll be spending the majority of my Saturday morning asleep and drooling in Honda’s waiting room.

I’d like to go home now, actually.

I heard that, too, this morning. But I think it’s the older models.

Yay!!! It’s Friday! I need to buy a new coffeepot. Yesterday morning when I pushed the on-off button to start my old one, the button popped right out of the durn thing. Just popped right out and there’s no putting it back. It’s okay, though, cause it was a cheapy. I can’t see paying lotto money for what is basically a thermostat, heating element, circuit breaker and a mess of cheap plastic. However, Mr. Anachi has this vision of eliminating clutter on the new countertops. He is seeing a combo coffeepot/grinder/artistic statement. Good effin luck, dude.

It’s also pay day! Yay!

Tupug

OK, here’s what I know. It’s Friday and I’m just now getting to check up on you people. (Four pages? Not too shabby.)

I got the job at the animal hospital. That’s a good thing. But, as it turns out, I know nothing. So that’s bad. Actually I know all sorts of things, it’s just there’s all sorts of things (mostly procedural) I don’t know and the learning is kicking my butt. The 10 hour days (three of them, then a half-day Thursday, but I was too tired to check in) aren’t helping either. But mostly it’s the learning stuff all the time that’s less fun than you’d figure.

And Monday… Monday…

Monday’s are always crazy. I knew that from nine years ago when I was working at the other clinic. See, this dog could be sick all weekend and these people will figure it’ll just get better on its own, but come Monday when the dog is still sick, because they’ve been ignoring it all weekend waiting for the Health Fairy to pop it on the head with her Magic Fairy Health Wand, then it’s an Emergency. Plus Monday was Columbus Day, which is a big fat Fake Holiday but enough people had it off to really be a nuisance to me.

So Monday was CAR-AY-ZEE.

Tuesday was some better. And I knew more stuff. Not a lot more stuff, but some. So that was good.

Wednesday was, comparatively, sedate.

Thursday, my half-day, my fourth day working there I was STUCK ON THE PHONES! The horror! But there was no one else to take care of them because the one girl who could have done it had a personal crisis and had to leave. My head didn’t explode, so I guess that’s one for the “Win” column.

So that’s what’s up with me. Work. (Man, I hate work. But this job should work out nicely. We’ll see.)

Good job on the OP Drae.

Happy whatever’s going on to anyone that has things going on. Unless it’s something bad, then you have my sympathy.

Now I should go back and finish reading the three pages I have to go before there’s more. Then I have two stinky dogs living with me that need baths and I have to swing by the library and there’s other stuff to get done. It’s always some danged thing.
-Rue. (still around, you just can’t tell)

Well, if you read the directions carefully, you cream the butter & sugars, mix the flours together in a separate bowl - and never combine the two. But it’s a standard cookie method - I just find it amusing that that line is missing.

As for the cookies - I like how they came out. They are not outrageously decadent, but they are decadent enough that you know that they are a treat. I made them with a mix of white chocolate, dark chocolate, and semisweet chips, and pecans and walnuts instead of just walnuts. They are the kind of cookies where you think the batter will never hold all the add-ins, but it eventually does. The non-mix-in part of the cookie is not too sweet, which is good because you don’t want to be overwhelmed with sweetness. I made a 1/2 batch, and ended up with 25 good sized cookies. Had two last night for an 11-o’clock snack, and didn’t feel like I needed to have another (which sometimes happens with sweets for me). I put 8 in a freezer bag for later consumption, and the rest are sitting on my desk, going to be shared around lunch. Oh - and I was very PC and chunked up chocolate bars from this company for the dark and white portions.

Susan

Oh, you sneak rue!!! :dubious: Wait til today and literally POP right into the MMP and drop a few bombs and split without even saying whether you’ll be back and if we’re to do another guest MMP for Monday or what???

Anyway HURRAY FOR RUE!!! on the new job thing. Don’t worry, the learning curve will get better. I nearly wept every day for the first week when I started in PR but I made it. You’ll do great!

Hurray, Rue was here! I’m so glad you’re employed, and I know you’ll be fine once you get used to things.

Puggie, I weep in PR, but it’s mostly because it’s not what I’d prefer to be doing. But, one does go where one is needed, doesn’t one.

Here’s a BIG OLD HURRAY for me: I have gone down a pants size. I have purchased new pants. I am on my way to getting into my old pants (of which I have many, and they are still in style). So, hurray for smaller pants, and the smaller butt which fits into them!

Also: Hurray, it’s Friday!

– Ellen. (Full of Hurrays)

A birthday and smaller pants in the same week? Go Ellen!

I have been reduced to waiting for the day to be over. I know that I’m going to be wicked busy in this job come November and December, but right now, I’m bored as hell.

Plans for tonight are to finally go see Serenity, which we should have seen opening night, but have had a string of movie-postponing calamities that never got us there. And tomorrow, I plan to sleep as late as I possibly can, then launder and perhaps practice a bit of clutter control (if not outright purging) around the house. Now that I’m done with weddings and craft shows and all manner of things that have made the last several months rather unbearable, it’s finally time to look for a new place to live. And it’ll be easier to pack if I don’t have to weed stuff out as I do it. Luckily, I actually enjoy the process of packing almost as much as I enjoy the process of unpacking–though my enthusiasm tends to peter out towards the end, when I get to boxes that are just labeled “Crap I Don’t Need”.

Hurray! I have today off!

I think I will eat a turkey sammich with gravy and stuffing. After that, I may borrow Mr. Lissar’s transit pass and toodle around a bit. After tidying the living room. Naw, before tidying the living room.

I’m glad FCD is doing better, and hurray for Rue and Ellen!

Oh, and my birthday present from Best Friend just arrived this morning. I have Trader Joe’s stuff! No cookies, but dried fruit and cocoa almonds and ginger gummy bears. Whee!

Welcome back, Rue!

My favourite cookies are the scrumptious white chocolate chunk & macadamia nut cookies that Loeb’s sometimes carries. They always sell them in a big honking package of about 4 dozen when they have them, too! And Mrs B’s rum balls (but she only makes those for Christmas).

Natural gas works much the same as for gardentraveler here, as well. I can’t really see the logic of going with a different supplier than the default, however. The gas delivery company who pipe the gas to us basically sell it to us at cost by law (they make their money on the delivery charges). Since they charge the same for delivery of any gas, buy their own supply in bulk on long-term contracts, and add an administrative charge if they have to add a third party charge to their bill, I can’t see how it can be cheaper to buy from the third party supplier. You have to expect that the market price will drop significantly below what the gas company is paying for their long-term contracts, and, frankly, that ain’t happening. Plus, a lot of the third party suppliers charge you more with the promise that, if their costs go down, you may get a rebate at the end of the year. [Bill Cosby]Riiiight.[/Bill Cosby]

I bought me a belt sander on Wednesday. Woohoo! No more orbital sander taking forever on large jobs. Now all I need is for the frikking rain to stop so I can sand and repaint the garage door.

OK, so now I see how it is. Fine. Be that way. I don’t want you near my gutters anyway… :stuck_out_tongue:

<note to self: Sean is a poopyhead who won’t do my bidding>

Yeah, about that whole me being back thing. All I can say is: “dunno”. After I get trained up I’ll get my regular schedule. What that’s gonna look like I can’t say. So until things settle you should just keep with a rotation or something.

Hurray for your pants Ellen!

Not to make everyone feel out of the look or anything (she said smugly) but I knew where Rue was all along. 'Cause I’m his #1 Special Friend and he told me about the job. But I was all subtle waiting for him to come share his good news. But I knew first - neener neener neener! :stuck_out_tongue:

OK, I’m done being a brat. TGIF! And the sun has finally peeped thru the clouds. We’re promised a bee-yoo-tee-ful weekend, and I have a bunch of planting I want to get done, so I’m kinda excited about playing in the dirt. My sweetie is having a bad day - he thinks he turned his head wrong in his sleep last night, and he’s been in a lot of pain today. Poor baby. I feel so helpless to make him better. I wonder if some medicinal cookies might help??

It’s not fair! It’s still pouring rain here and is supposed to keep raining through the weekend. No fair! No fair! WAAAAAAAAH!

Sorry, taxi, darlin’, but this is the first non-dreary day in a week - we’ve earned some sunshine. Your day will come eventually. So quit whining, or I’ll give you something to whine about!!!

Oops, slipped into Mom-mode there. :o

Happy Friday everyone!

I had another chripractors appointment today and I feel GREAT. I am outta town next week in a training class in Houston so they gave me a bunch of physical therapy to do.

Have a great weekend!

Oh and good for you Rue . Drae are you insane you like packing? Congrats Ellen on the pants!

I like organization and labeling things. Which you’d never know if you actually looked at my apartment.

I haven’t had time to read the MMP this week due to the events below but i have a day off tomorrow and promise to catch up with you guys then. In the meantime happy birthday to Ellen Cherry and Sean’s GF and i hope **FCD ** is still doing as well as he seems to be on page one!

[deep breath]
started a new job, got declared the new Queen of the Underworld, had a tummy bug, did NOT eat all week, got scared at scary stuff, got sexually harrassed (again), went out to the pub, drank only lemonade, used my magic ID card to get me in places on the London transport system that i’m not allowed in, bought some…‘adult’ gifts for an internet friend (who in the hell wants KITTENS over the net? ), swanked around work like i owned the place, continued with my crush on an internet person (not the same one) and potentially have bestowed my nick on the imminent-baby of the ex-Queen of the Underworld.
[/deep breath]

so i was kinda busy…

The Prius is here! It’s a lovely dark red with cream interior, and much more roomy than I expected. I got to take a short drive (its Mr. SCLs car - I’m still loyal to my Wrangler) and the ride is very smooth. The gas engine cuts off when you come to a stop, which will take some getting used to. So will the push-button ignition and the little box (that looks like an alarm on/off) instead of a key. The owners manual is thick - Mr. SCL has it now, so it will be a while before I get to it.

Just made the long drive home. Bored. ::sigh::

I don’t think I’ll do anything useful before work. I think I’ll laze around eating things and reading The Time-Traveller’s Wife. I still have scones and devon double cream left. That sounds like a respectable afternoon snack.

Tomorrow I’m going out for brunch with my inlaws, sans Mr. Lissar. He’ll be working. I get to see my BIL, whom I last saw last Christmas. It’s been too long. I have the great good fortune to like all my inlaws. I am lucky.
