Hair Metal.
Def Leppard’s “Photograph”? Oh yeah. The Scorpions’ “Rock You Like A Hurricane”? I’m there. Mötley Crüe’s “Looks That Kill”? Yep, that too. It’s shameful. Pure cheese, but a very fun trip down memory lane now and then.

Kelly Clarkson. She’s hot. She can sing. Her album is pure pop music done very well.
I’m sorry, what? - Garth Brooks has sold over 100 million records! I assure you, he has many, many country music fans.
Of the tens of millions of people who bought his records, in the 90s, you don’t think he has many fans left?
Anyway, Huey Lewis and The News…There, I said it.
Huey Lewis and the News were a great band. No lie, no irony intended. They had some great bar-rock songs and a tight, killer horn section. My favorite song by them is a less-popular instrumental, “Slammin,” but I still mark out whenever I hear “The Power of Love.” I hear they’re making a comeback as Huey Lewis and Infotainment.
“mark out”?
Album sales aren’t the issue. Many, if not most, of the bands listed in this thread sold millions. The point is that Garth is “pooh-poohed” by the purists, and nowadays it’s not cool to admit to liking him.
I have to agree with you on Huey, though. Ever hear them do the National Anthem a cappella? Amazing!
Wrestling term for an enthusiastic, positive fan reaction (“marks” being fans). I use it for everything.
“Feeling Stronger Every Day” by Chicago is my main one. I would be embarrassed to buy it, but I turn it up every time it’s on the radio.
“Wishing” by Flock of Seagulls doesn’t seem like a guilty pleasure to me, but my wife has sentenced me to death for liking it.
True, but nowhere close to 100 million +.
Country “purists” would probably discount 90% of the popular modern country artists. Kenny Chesney? - Nope. Gretchen Wilson? - Nope. Etc., etc.
There was some backlash against Garth after his “Chris Gaines” album, but he is loved and respected by millions, to this day.
I was in the deep south recently and I heard GB songs everywhere: on the radio, blasting out of cars, in bars. I must have heard Friends In Low Places a dozen times while I was down there.
Purists may say it’s “uncool” to like him, but to the majority of mainstream country music fans, he’s “A-List” all the way.
*Digging your scene * by the Blow Monkeys
Just Got Lucky by the Jo Boxers
The’re both fluffy, but I like them nonetheless.
Oh, and the occasional Simon and Garfunkel.
Disco.
“Don’t Leave Me This Way” is in my top 5 songs of all time.
(Dr. Nick voice) Hi! Everybody!
My shameful aural confessions are:
“Soul Provider” - Michael Bolton
“Water From the Moon” - Celine Dion
A really pretty slow song by Garth Brooks’ alter ego Chris Gaines. I can’t remember the name of it, but they used to play it a lot on the radio.
“Seven Days to Rock” - BR549
“She’s A Lady” - Tom Jones
“In the Ghetto” - Elvis Presley (For some reason, I always associate this with Christmas)
“Suspicious Minds” and “Viva Las Vegas” - Elvis
"Ain’t Gon’ Bump No More (With No Big Fat Woman) - Joe Tex (Say what you want, but the bass line on that song thumps!)
Don McLean
“Legend of Billy Jack.” This is a song my parrot is also fond of, though he’s never done anything indicating that he intends to live up to the song’s message.
“Beth” - Kiss
“Ariel” - Dean Friedman
I listen to The Lynx internet radio at work, and they play absolutely great cheese - whole swaths of guilty pleasures.
Man, most of the songs and bands here aren’t what I’d call lame by a long shot. They’re still pretty popular. It’s not lame just because the art house guys and indy rockers say so.
Someone mentioned ELO, and that’s one of my two guilty listening pleasures. I’m not gonna tell you the other one . . .

(Slinks back)
OK, the soundtrack to Xanadu. It was the summer of 1980, I was 10 years old, and my family life had yet to get complicated. Listening to the soundtrack just kind of reminds me of those happy times. Same with ELO, and the BeeGees and Blondie. OK, that’s four. Yeah, I’m a lamer when it comes to music, but I’m cool about most other things. Plus, I hate Barry Manilow, so that should count for something.
