Guinness is 250 years old. Arthur's Day

Last night Ireland got drunk. We celebrated Guinness’ 250th birthday with a huge piss up.

Dublin was packed with people. Lots of big stars doing free gigs all over the city. Ronnie Wood played in a shop window on Grafton Street for example. All over the city every few minutes people lifted their pints in the air and shouted “To Arthur!” or “To Marta!” or “To Llamas!”(see the advertisment linked below for explanation) It was great craic indeed.

Here’s a pic I took from where I was. Everyone was drinking Guinness. http://lh5.ggpht.com/_3Il9stdb7Po/Sryo4Elg2RI/AAAAAAAAAOU/m4cSYPX_cqg/s640/Photo0034.jpg

Was there anything about this in your neck of the woods?

It was unreal how busy the city was last night. I was down by Camden St. and the hordes of people there were verily impressive.

Well now I am happy that I had a pint of Guinness myself last night. “To Arthur” indeed.

Looking for that ad on youtube made me look at a few others.

Guinness really have some of the best ads in the world IMO.

Voted the best ever. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zff9hVH3ptY&feature=related

One that is shown every year in Ireland at Christmas. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GWfdbYbDVzg

Good stuff.

Twas amazing - should be a yearly event.

Brother had an Australian friend over - he was wandering around the streets with a pint of Guinness thinking Ireland was the coolest country ever.

Btw, did anyone see the picture on the front of the IT?

I wonder who the greedy bollix was with the empty glass?

A great day for statisticians everywhere to hoist a glass! [The t-test was introduced by a Guinness chemist]

Bah, no Guinness drinkers amongst my friends left in the city. I had to be content with a bottle of the Nigerian stuff and a DVD :stuck_out_tongue:

I was surprised to hear there were celebrations in Malaysia, but Nigeria would be a great place for a bash. An old work colleague described turning up at a bar to see a crowd of Nigerian men drinking what looked like litre bottles of their higher alcohol stuff, while watching an England game.
