It seems the band has signed on.
Aerosmith and then Metallica. I don’t care what anybody says about this… they are one by one picking out my favorite bands for the band themed games.
I don’t think I could be more excited about this.

I jsut hope they don’t have the gall to charge $50/$60 for it like they did with Guitar Hero Rocks the 80’s. These “theme/band” ones are really only worth $40, IMO.
I really wanted the 80’s version for my Wii…
Please God let them do a Jimi Hendrix game.
Hell, I just want I and II for my Wii! Is there any chance at all they’ll port them over? I’m guessing no, since they were done by different companies.
I seem to recall that they shot down the idea of an Xbox 360 port of GH1 due to music licensing issues.
I was all planning on getting Rock Band, but seeing as Metallica is one of my favorite bands, I may have to get it instead.
Enter Sandman is included in Rock Band, and, so far, you can download "“Ride the Lightning”, “Blackened”, and “…And Justice for All.”
Plus with Rock Band you get good selection with stuff like Deep Purple, Sabbath, Nirvana, and Nine Inch Nails.
There has been way too little Metallica on the various rhythm games. This is about 8 billion times better than guitar hero: aerosmith.
I can’t think of a band I would rather pretend to rock out to than Metallica. I’m excited!
I like Metallica and Aerosmith, but I don’t know about these themed games. Is Aerosmith’s back catalog good enough that you can find 40-50 good, playable songs out of it? I’ll bet there’s some filler in there. Same with Metallica.
I prefer Rock Band’s approach - release new songs every week, and mix them up so there are lots of bands supported. Metallica has a handful of songs in Rock Band. But so does Boston, David Bowie, The Grateful Dead, Oasis, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Rush, The Cars, Def Leppard, and I’m sure a few more I can’t remember - all of which have at least 3 songs in the game.
I like metal well enough, but I mostly hate playing it in Rock Band or Guitar Hero. Trying to be a speed freak just hurts my hands and tires me out. I’d rather play melodic songs or songs with a groove I can really get into, regardless of how difficult they are.
Another problem with the themed games is that you get a lot fewer songs between the games, and if the theme happens to be a band you don’t care for, you’ve got a long wait for the next one. With Rock Band, you get 3-6 new songs every week.
In the end, the quality of the instruments is going to be a huge factor for me. Guitar Hero is coming out with drums and microphone, so there will be a direct comparison between the games. Rock Band’s peripherals have been dodgy at best, shoddy at worst. If Guitar Hero comes out with drums that are quiet, responsive, and have cymbals, I’m there.
Metallica is the only band in my view that can pull off the single game edition thing. They have a large catalog of rocking awesomeness. I couldn’t imagine being that enthusiastic about buying any other (mainstream) band’s game.
Generally, I agree with your sentiment, but the Metallica game (assuming they focus on the good stuff) is the only exception.
Metallica has 5 good classic metal albums:
Kill 'em All
Ride the Lightning
Master of Puppets
…And Justice For All
Black Album (which most like but some hate)
That’s 46 tracks in all.
They could mix in a few tracks from Load/Reload, which at best are re-hashed Black Album tracks, but whatever.
There’s very little filler between Lightning and the Black Album. Pretty much every song is a good candidate.
Only about half the songs in GH: Aerosmith are actually Aerosmith, though. There’s a lot from bands that toured with them, were influences on them, etc. So not all the music has to come from that band.
