Gullibility

12 out of 20 correct. I believed 2 of the false claims and disbelieved 6 of the true ones.

I am not so sure there is anything embarrasing about a low score. And picking true for some of the false ones does not make you gullible. To be gullible you would actually have to believe a false story to be true. Inn Considering that it was obvious some of these were true and you were simply trying to guess which ones they were, does not make you gullible. It just makes you a bad guesser. It is one thing to guess something being true and another to actually believe it.

You and me both, detop. Manhattan, the city, was NOT bought for $24. It was bought (traded actually) for jewelery and trinkets ostensibly worth the equivalent of $24 in Dutch currency. So the statement, as worded, is false. Also, excess skin on a cat CANNOT be considered a wing. Ever. That’s my story and I’m sticking to it. Adjusted score - 12/20.

13/3/4…if Doctor Jackson’s adjustments are made, 15/2/4.
I agree regarding the beads/trinkets adjustment, just flat reject the winged cat idea (much like the carnival side show “two headed cow” which was a loose flap of skin also), and agree with Fiver regarding the laws of physics. Tenuous, indeed. But what the hey, it’s just a stupid, fun little waste of a few minutes, anyway.

Why thank you, tretiak, for making that excellent point.

I was a bad guesser this morning. That’s all there is to it.

Doctor Jackson:

Although I’ve heard that manhattan, the moderator, can be bought for much less than that.

‘Can be’, ‘has been’, they all apply to Manny.

C’mon, nobody bit on this? Jeez!

Cliffy:

Maybe someone would have, Cliffy, but we’ve already been there and done that, quite recently. Please try to keep up.

  1. Believed 2 false statements; disbelieved 5 true ones.

Some of that stuff … yow.

It’s not even clear they actually bought Manhatten in the first place. Chances are they were duped by some Indians who just happened to be there at the time. Boy, those Dutch sure were gullible.

Another 12/2/6 here. Looks like Dopers are a skeptical lot.
Cats have wings and pigs fly.

I’m with you Pucette, I’m not telling. My score was not a pretty site.
