Gullibility

I don’t usually post these kinds of links, but this one just seemed perfect for this board. It’s called The Gullibility Test and it’s all about differentiating hoaxes from truths. I only scored 9 out of 20, but I’ve always been known to be fairly gullible anyway. The only problem I have with it is that it doesn’t tell the which of them were hoaxes.

So, how did you score? And which ones can you verify as truth or fiction?

And I just realized the misspelling in the Thread title. Well, I never claimed that spelling was one of my strong suits!

Uh, oh. I only scored 11 out of 20.

At this rate, after that intelligence test a while back – I’ll be drummed outta the SDMB fer sure!

Oh, woe!

my overall score was 13 out of 20

by the way TruePices, there’s a link at the bottom that says “See the Answers” in case you’re still curious about which ones were hoaxes

I got 15 - not too bad. Some of the true claims are rather weird, so I don’t blame myself for dismissing them.

If only there’d been three buttons: True, False, and ‘Cite, please’…

acconav, thanks for the info. I hadn’t looked any further down the page than the first button. Some of the true ones are weird… and some of the false ones I was sure were true! Just goes to show how little I really know.

You’ll never get me to click on that link, TP. What do you think I am? Gulli…

Never mind.

Chief, I know what you are. It’s in your sig. But that’s for a whole 'nother thread.

and TP
How r You doing??

Nice to finally post in a TP thread!!!

Oh well that was embarassing. And no, I’m not telling what my score was. I will take it to my grave.

I scored 14 out of 20. But I am truly gullible. I just tend to believe things that people tell me about themselves. I read too much random triva to be fooled by many news and history and science stories.

Ah, you’re no fun! It can’t be worse than mine, can it???

Believed 5 false ones and didn’t believe 4 true ones. Well, you’ll have that, I guess.

[sub]It was. Hmph.[/sub]

  1. But in my defense, I know nothing about Lewis & Clark.

and winged cats? Who knew.

Yeah, the problem with gullibility is that not only is it kinda tough to spell, but you can’t even check it because it isn’t in the dictionary.

Well, I got 12; believed 3 false ones and didn’t believe 5 true ones. I was going to say which ones, but then it occurred to me that that would skew further results. Duh! Is there an “I just wasn’t thinking” test out there? :o

My overall score was 14 out of 20.

Gullibility: I believed 2 of the 10 false claims.

Skepticism: I disbelieved 4 of the 10 true statements.

Although I call bullshit on some of the “true” statements. I do not accept that the laws of physics have changed over time, and even they admit that’s a new, tenuous assertion.

And I couldn’t get to the link supposedly showing a “winged cat,” but whatever mutation those unfortunate kitties bear, I bet they’re being extremely charitable when they call it “wings.”

  1. They didn’t cover winged cats in science class.

Another 14-2-4 reporting. Yeah, the “winged” cat one got me too. Although I have to admit I also clicked wrong on the Manhattan-for-$24 question. In my defense I will only say that I thought it was a trick question. Semantics will be the end of me !
