GusNSpot, you are one sick fuck

I would shoot someone who looked like he was about to shoot someone for burning a flag.

Hypothetically.

An expression of one’s anger at the state of the country and/or government. What do YOU think it symbolizes?

And even if you disagree with that, do you think someone should be shot for doing so?

Well, then, I guess we don’t have it, since there are quite a few limitations on free speech. Slander, imminent harm, obscenity, etc.

Yeah, I know what you mean. But it irks me when people forget that even our freedom isn’t unlimited.

oooo Gocthya ya. I am totally impressed.

True. For example, no matter how intensely I may wish to call you a cuntlapper, or invite you (or another poster) to suck/lick my dick/cock and variants, I’m prohibited from doing so. Should you fuck off and die? I’m precluded from giving my opinion.

I’m sorry. I prefer not to be coy, but we fan the cards we’re dealt.

I wonder if he goes to the beach and yells at people wearing bikinis made to look like cut-up American flags. Wal-Mart sells these each July 4th season and I do not understand why no one has a problem with it. Or American flag boxers. Or FLIP FLOPS.

Deliberately burning a flag as part of a protest makes sense. Casually using a flag to cover your naked ass is just tack and disrespectful.

Thanks for pointing that out. No matter how good a thread is, it could always be better with a little more nitpicking and pedantry. Kudos.

Whereas Le Jac would shoot you for buying a flag made in China, since you are obviously supporting the swipe-age of an American’s job! :stuck_out_tongue:

Some days it just doesn’t pay to get out of bed…

At least nobody is burning books.

Wow, what a great rebuttal. You must have been captain of the debate club with skills like that.

I don’t see what’s so eyeroll-worthy about believing in free speech. I’ll defend the right to say and do damn near anything that doesn’t directly harm another person. That’s one thing about this country that we do better than almost anyone else, and when anyone tries to limit that freedom it tells me they don’t understand “freedom” like they think they do.

As usual, I will do my patriotic duty as a freedom-loving American and quote Bill Hicks. The comments below were his reaction to a recent (at the time) Supreme Court decision upholding our First Amendment rights.

It’s best really to watch Hicks say it himself. Here’s one great performance of the bit. [NOTE: since he performed it differently every time, the above quote isn’t an exact “transcript” of the linked-to video.]

How did such an obvious freedom-of-expression right ever even become questioned? What kind of Anti-American, fascist idiots agitated to have a clear-cut First Amendment right argued before SCOTUS?

What kind of courts were so ignorant of one of the fundamental and most-cherished parts of our Constitution that the case was ever appealed to any higher court?

It’s really fucking scary that we have people in our midst who hate freedom so much that they would launch such a totalitarian-type effort, and it’s really fucking scary that it wasn’t simply laughed out of the very first court it stank up.

I hear people say stuff like what GusNSpot said all the time. Particularly military veterans and older guys and rural people. It doesn’t really get to me because I know they’re not seriously going to kill someone. They are just really emotional about the flag. I don’t have the same kind of attachment to it, though I certainly wouldn’t desecrate the flag myself. GusNSpot comes from a different place; he’s a vet, a biker, just an all-around good ol’ boy. I don’t live in a bubble. I know plenty of guys who feel the way he does. Whatever.

Being raised in Texas, “good old boy” is pretty much debased currency, far as I’m concerned. Mostly, it was mean and stupid dressed up like gusto.

Ahem…

I burning your flag!

“Plenty of guys” saying something doesn’t make it any less ridiculous. The idiots who brag about serving their country and fighting for freedom in one breath, while showing such blatant ignorance about what freedom really means are the scariest kind of hypocrites. They’re usually the same ones who have little tolerance for anyone who doesn’t look, believe, or think just like they do. And the irony is them thinking they’re such great Americans while behaving like xenophobic morons.

Good 'ol boys, my ass.

Oh, he’s a good ol’ boy? Well, bless his heart.

Too much estrogen in this thread for my liking.

Shooting flag burners is just too easy, too antiseptic and, yes, girly. Beat someone to death with your bare fists and people will know you are serious about the flag and all it stands for.

It took me what, 10 years to get a pit thread all my own. w00t!!! ( Well, Monty don’t really count. )

Had to really get out there but I got’er done. Bawahahaha

I want to thank Guinastasia for the honor. She has disliked me for almost the whole 10 years.

I must be getting cranky in my old age.

Buy a flag, burn it.
Steal a flag and burn it, not so much.

Thanks for the fun.

I have? Well, that’s news to me. I haven’t really even paid much attention to you.
burns the U.S. flag on GusNSpot’s street while singing “O’ Canada!”
(It’s the only other national anthem I know.)
