GW2 finally has a release date!!!

I spent about an hour just sitting around the Asura city listening to asuran kids make yo mama’s IQ is so low jokes to each other. “Yo mamas IQ is so low she thinks a golemancer is what you get when you ask a golemquestion”.

This is exactly the kind of thing that I hope will distract me from chasing hearts to level apace with the crowds. =)

This is probably a dumb question but…

When GW2 comes out, what happens to GW1? Will they just shut it down? Will it be maintained awhile longer for those who still have some interest in the old game? What?

Probably keep it going as long as they have players. Whoever is left now is probably pretty dedicated anyways.

GW 1 will stay up. Thing you do in GW ‘transfer’ to GW2 and you will be able to continue to add to your titles in GW1 and have whatever bonus keep transferring over each time you hit a threshold.

This site explains it a bit more. Put my name in the HoM rewards calculator to get an idea…

So, yesterday me and the gf paid off our copies of GW2 at Gamestop and received codes for the 3 day advance.

Went to the GW2 site and registered them, then downloaded the game. My god… 14 GB of data!!! That game is huge.

Now I have an icon on my desktop just sitting there taunting me because I can’t play until Aug. 25th! cry I want my GW2… Now!

Yeah, I downloaded everything last night. I’m glad it is so big because more is better…

I finally got around to pre-ordering a couple days ago. How many people do we have around here who’ll be playing on Day 1 (or would that be Day -3)?

From what I understand, all characters on a single account will be restricted to the same Server, which kinda sucks…do we have enough interest to get an SDMB Guild together on one of them?

Server list here

I hope to become obsessed for the next couple months. I plan to start a character some time on the 25th. Probably a Charr. I don’t get to let my inner beast out in real life…

Respectfully request cite on restricting players to a single server per account. Cause that would suck.

From the Arenanet blog:

“When you log in to the game for the first time, you will have the opportunity to pick any available server, or home world. If you choose to select a home world that is in a different region from where you purchased your game, you will be logged out for a short period of time while your account is moved to your new region. Once you have selected a home world, all the characters you create will play on this world and will represent it in our world-versus-world (WvW) format.”
And I found this on the GW2 Wiki FAQ:

Are there going to be different servers?
Yes. When you log into the game for the first time, you will have the opportunity to choose your home world, which you will represent during World versus World.

Can I play on a server outside of my region?
Yes. If you do so, you will be logged out briefly while the game moves your account to the new region.

Can I change servers?
Yes. You can change your home world. There will be a limit of one such transfer every seven days per account; each transfer will cost 1,800 gems. After a transfer, all existing and future characters on your account will play in the new world.

I’m on one server, but my friend is on another. Can we play together?
Yes. Guesting allows you to participate in PvE content on an alternative server. However, you can only participate in WvW via your home world.

Thanks for the cite. It kinda sucks for alt-a-holics like me.

Five characters per server limit, too? If so, that means I can never have more than five toons. (Note that there are eight professions.)

Does anyone know if the instancing is any better than in the first game? When everything except towns was instanced, Guild Wars felt like it combined the gameplay of an MMO with the multiplayer experience of a non-MMO: the worst of both worlds.

You can buy extra character slots.

It works like all other MMOs now.

Ah. That’s a little better. (I can’t blame them for that, since it starts free-to-play.)

Yeah, for 200 gems IIRC.

FTR, I will be playing on the Northern Shiverpeaks server. 99% likely that I will be re-joining my former guild ZoS.

I’ve been playing all the open betas and stress tests. It’s been so hard to choose one or two classes to focus on first. I’ve only just today decided to start with mesmer. There’s just so much to love!

It was listed at 800 gems ($10) during yesterday’s stress test.

And be careful when there’s lag! During the previous Stress Test the bad lag caused me to spend the 800 gems twice. It didn’t matter while still in beta, but I learned not to use the gem store when there’s server lag.

Ahh, makes sense. $9.99 was what it cost for an additional slot in GW.

I have been updating the client every day and on Tuesday I got a message saying that there were known compatibility issues with some video drivers. I am currently using 301.42 and it pinged the warning. I emailed support and they said that there was an issue with 301.42 even though it is the current driver according to Nvidia. As per the Anet support I have downloaded the beta driver 304.79, but not installed it. According to Anet, there are no issues with the beta driver and GW2.
