That’s going to cut into my mini/dye budget.
I’ve been using the 304.79 drivers since they work better with Secret World. It ran fine for me, but there was a bit of flickering on some world objects. If I forced a video reset by enabling then disabling vsync, the flickering went away, but I’d have to do it every time I restarted the client.
I did not use the 304.79 drivers during the stress test yesterday and yeah, there was some terrible flickering going on. Wasn’t like that during earlier beta events for me.
Less than 18 hours until the official headstart launch (3 am EDT).
The last stress test earlier in the week really has got me excited. I’ll be there good and early to try and claim a couple of single names for my characters.
Once again, I do recommend that you update the client, there is lots of downloads since the original client was released a few weeks ago. Also, you should upgrade your drivers to 304.79 drivers if you have an Nvidia GPU. This link shows the detected performance differences between the current driver and other (read beta) driver.
Again, I plan on being on the Northern Shiverpeaks server.
They said they might start up to three hours early.
That is something I was planning on. I;m going to take a nap in the afternoon and then keep clicking on the icon from about 9:00 on.
We’re going out to dinner with friends tonight, and we’ll be out of town pretty much all day tomorrow. So I’ll expect a full report from the rest of you by the time I’m able to finally play some time on Sunday.
Who’s responsible for starting up the Burning Dog Legion, Tyria branch?
Have the newer MMO lauches been painless?
Should I wait until Saturday morning before starting my journey? (The game was set to launch midnight, Pacific time.)
I’m afraid they’re gonna get slammed. (The servers, that is.)
Well, they’ve certainly done enough stress testing the last couple weeks. And from what I’ve read they have actually been tweaking things as a result of these tests; they seem to actually be treating their beta as a “beta test” rather than simply a “free preview”.
Whether or not that all translates to “problem free launch” is, of course, another story…but I’d be cautiously optimistic that things will go OK.
I was a Burning Dog Legion charter member! Do I know you?
I do think Headstart will also be a bit beta-ish, handling unexpected problems before official release.
Yeah, as recently as this past Tuesday there was a stress test and Anet would make announcements asking people to do certain things to do actual stress testing.
They held a series of short stress tests yesterday as well.
As I’m in EST, the headstart for me will start anywhere between midnight and 3am tonight. I’m thinking I’ll just start whenever I wake up tomorrow morning. Midnight is way past my bedtime these days, even on the weekends. Stupid old age!
Possibly, but I was a latecomer myself (assuming you’re referring to WoW); I didn’t start until well into WoTLK and played mostly Alliance. I think I finally got my troll Priest up to about 82-83 before I just kinda lost interest. I’m not even sure what his name is at this point…
So is anyone else trying trying to logon every few hours, just in case they decided to start really early to spread the load?
Or (twitch) is it just (twitch) me?
No. IT isn’t you. And TBH, I wouldn’t be staying up for this if the naming system was the same as it was in GW1.
It is and it isn’t. That is to say, you can have spaces in your names (I saw some 3-word names during the BWE IIRC), and your GW1 names are reserved for you if you link your accounts (and you get an in-game T-shirt or something if you do it between now and September somethingth). It’ll be much less likely that someone will have taken your name if you have a relatively unique name/surname combination or whatever. However, if you want a 1-word name, you’ll have to get in pretty early to get it unless it’s really obscure and weird.
So from what i’ve seen it looks like people are saying that that GW2 does not require the Tank-DPS-Healer group make up that we all know and love. Can any of you that have been in the beta give a brief explanation of what dungeons are like?
No, what are you…some kind of freak?!?
I’ve only tried once (so far).
Yeah, I have 2 one word names I want to use. Both are coveted. At least 2 or 3 of my reserved names from GW will be used as well.
I am staying up to try to grab a couple of names (one of which typically goes pretty early in MMOs, though I’ve never actually seen anyone max level with it but myself), but boy am I going to be useless tomorrow. This would have been so much fun ten years ago. Now it’s just… ugh.
