Gwen Stefani's "LAMB" (or, "What the hell is a harajuku?!")

So I picked up Gwen Stefani’s first solo album on Tuesday. As a longtime ND fan, I must say I’m heavily biased, but I will also say that the stuff on LAMB has very little to do with anything No Doubt’s put out. So far, I’m digging it. Some of it seems pretty damn goofy, but kinda fitting with her persona, I think, even “Hollaback Girl,” which is a guilty (very guity) pleasure.

Anyone pick this up? What’d you think? Is your shit bananas?

Oh. From the title, I thought this was going to be a thread about what “harajuku” means.

I know almost nothing about Ms. Stefani, but since I came in here anyway I might as well say that Harajuku is an area of Tokyo where fashionable teens like to shop and hang out.

I kinda gathered that from the album, actually. I think the phrase “harajuku girl” is used in just about every track on this CD. Mrs. Stefani certainly has developed a (almost stalkerish) fetish for the area.

It comes through in her videos as well.

Well, she does have those four harajuku girls following her around all the time.

I sampled all of the tracks at RollingStone.com, and it sounded very Prince-y to me.
