My apologies if this has already been discussed, but I looked through the nine pages of this forum that I could see and found no threads on the topic.
Much to my chagrin, Gwen Stefani, the radio and my television have succeeded in sticking Stefani’s wretched hollaback girl song in my head and keeping it stuck. Kudos to them, at the least it has the laudable virtue of teaching everyone the proper way to spell bananas and is less obnoxious than the macarena. But since the media has indellibly imprinted this song upon my consciousness (though I patently refuse to ever purchase it, or even steal it) I feel like they, or someone, owe me an explanation of what a hollaback girl is. (Or at least they owe me some better music on the radio).
Upon looking around, I’ve found several theories. Wikipedia lists most of the common ones here, if you’re interested. I also noticed that google has an unsavory and not safe for work result for the search string “this shit is bananas” (it’s the flash movie that is the second or third result. The flash depicts quite literally the phrase you had to search to find the page and puts it to the repeating tune of Stefani’s “this shit is bananas, B-A-N-A-N-A-S”).
I’d really love to see something definitive on the issue.
