The sadistic Nazi in me got a big chortle today reading about the Russian pacifist who made an unauthorized attempt to talk to the Chechen terrorists. They decided she must be an undercover government spy and killed her. For everyone who has ever daydreamed about looney left idealists having to pay the price of their beliefs, this is a red-letter day.

Trying to reel this back from deep within the abyss to its precipice – even if we aren’t gleeful about this woman’s death, could there be a more obvious Darwin Award winner for the year?
I don’t care how strongly you feel about pacificism, a couple of hundred people armed with automatic weapons, explosives, land mines and who knows what else are holding hundreds of people hostage, and you think that you can walk in alone, unarmed and not die or at the very least become one of the hostages too? That’s either unadultered arrogance or unmitigated stupidity, or, more likely a healthy combination of both.
If there had been one Chechen, even five or six maybe, then I could see it being a bold, courageous thing to do. But there were dozens. That’s just a huge, screaming, flashing neon sign that says “Unsafe! Unsafe! Abandon All Hope Ye Who Enter Here Without Training, Knowledge Or Any Clue How To Protect Yourself Against Dozens Of Armed Extremists Who Are Fully Prepared To Die For Their Cause And Take As Many Innocent Civilian Lives With Them As They Can!!”
I don’t think I have any schaudenfreude over this nitwit’s death, but I don’t have a whole heck of a lot of sympathy, either, no matter how “good intentioned” she was, she was a fool.
