I can’t find any English news source that’s picked up on the story yet, but over here in Germany, numerous sites are reporting that viewers of the Czech morning television were duped into believing that an atomic bomb had gone off in the Karkonosze mountains. The program shows alternating views of different locations via automated webcams, one of which the ‘Initiative Ztohoven’ (one of the members seems to be a guy named Roman Tyc, a Czech artist whose last work apparently involved exchanging pedestrian traffic lights - those little green and red ‘walk’ and ‘wait’ manikins - with cutouts of peeing, drinking or resting people) fed with footage of a simulated atomic explosion (link points to video).
I’m not sure whether to congratulate them for pulling such a prank, or condemn them because of the possibility of public panic, but they did a pretty decent job with the simulation…
