Went to my second dentist appointment today to finish having my teeth cleaned and have two little molar pits filled. It wasn’t an unpleasant experience, which is not something I hear people generally say about going to the dentist.
SO and I haven’t been very good about going to the dentist and it had been about five years since either of us visited. I know, stupid. But when it was time to get Cinnamon Babe registered for kindergarten, she needed her first dental visit. We found this guy in our dental insurance coverage guide and chose him simply because he’s so close to home. Turns out he’s great! Very, very personable, great with kids & adults, and seems to be a pretty decent dentist.
CinnBabe had a wonderful time during her visit and I think this will leave a positive lasting impression. No dragging of screaming child to the car for future visits anticipated. Next, SO went for a cleaning and then me. My first cleaning necessitated today’s follow-up visit. Although, I think the hygenist is a bit too talkative. Don’t they realize the absurdity of asking questions that require more than a yes/no answer while they’ve got their hands and tools in your wide-open mouth? Apparently, this one does not. Nor does she have any appreciation for silence. The idle chatter, redundant lecturing about flossing, flossing, and flossing, and too many comments about how beautiful my teeth are/small my mouth is were irritating.
But the dentist and his assistant were a great team. I never felt the numbing shots nor any of the work he did. He gave me a face massage midway when I mentioned that holding my tiny mouth open so wide for so long was starting to bother my TMJ. He told my daughter, who was sitting in on us, everything he was doing and allowed her to stand next to him while setting the fill with the blue light (?). I couldn’t see what was going on, but she was asking all sorts of questions and he was so happy to respond. He relaxed her further by saying how great mommy was doing and told her she’ll make a great dentist when she grows up. Awww.
I can’t see or feel the fillings as he spent a lot of time making sure my bite was unchanged. My teeth are a little bit sore, but not real serious. I’m just so happy to have found such a great dentist. He has nice teeth, too.
