Haha- fuck you Oafrah!

The kids should get down on their knees and thank the mighty Oafrah for making time in her busy schedule to come over an apologize!

And again, youre missing the point- she flew over the minute the accusations “surfaced”- very different from when the events actually happened. Someone who owns the place should be able to handle something like this before it ever surfaces, and should be aware of it before it “surfaces”.

And boarding schools in the US for rich kids are one thing- when you have poverty all over the fucking place and you pick a handful of kids to bask in luxury. that’s fucking insane. Girl A spends her day getting backrubs and her nails done, while her brother back home spends the day begging for spare change- wonderful.

Oafrah just says Lemon Pledge is the best thing ever, go run out and buy a case.

Wee Bairn, I post on the same message board as VCO3: I know VCO3’s posting style; VCO3 is a fellow Doper. Wee Bairn, you’re no VCO3.

How the hell would you know?

We can’t all be VCO3.

how?

You seem to be claiming that the CEO of an organization, if they cannot be on site 24/7 has no business being the CEO. THey all hire folks to run stuff. Hell, I have employees (that I’ve hired, vetted, trained and supervise) but I don’t hover over them every minute of every day. No one does. She took action as soon as she was made aware of a problem. Like I said, no reasonable person could ask more.

The high point of this piss poor pitting I’m sure.

So, are you saying if you can’t help everybody, don’t help anybody?

  1. Re-read his post.
  2. Note spelling.
  3. Accept the fact that Oprah learned of this incident(s) and immediately cancelled what she was doing and went out to try and fix the situation. She didn’t abuse anyone. She stopped the abuse from continuing.
  4. STFU before you embarrass yourself further.

I believe he was insulting you, too. Otherwise, he’d have been a numbnuts as well.

No CEO claims on a friggin daily basis to know the inner workings of their company. She does. I’ll find quotes showing this shortly. Again, if she said “I don’t know what goes on over there, I just write the check”, I’d have no issue.

You know what seals it for me? How you call her “Oafrah.” See, what you did here, is you took her real name, “Oprah,” and you replaced the “Op” with “Oaf!” Oafrah! But her name is Oprah - no it’s not! It’s Oafrah!

Algonquin, table for Wee Bairn, please!

I was planning on giving her the benefit of the doubt there, but now, oh my…now, she absolutely must be a terrible human being!

“Oafrah”…oh, mercy, the cleverness.

Saw that, didn’t know if it was a typo, thought maybe a slam, maybe not, why not say thanks anyway. So it turns out it was a slam and I thanked him- now what should I do- run and hide in shame? Big deal, I’m not 12.

So, what you’re demanding is that she run the place herself, personally? That she micro-manage it? That although she can go ahead and delegate, still, she better have, what, daily telepathic conferences with each and every employee and girl, so as to be aware of problems even before they surface?

If you’ll bother to go look at her website, instead of spewing pointless venom in a totally unmerited pixel-wasting Pitting, you’ll see that the whole point of the enterprise is to teach 150 of Joburg’s brightest yet impoverished girls that there IS another life out there, that they don’t have to settle for pregnancy at 16, a whole passel of brats, and an early grave from childbearing, malnutrition, and/or AIDS. That there is more to life than scrabbling a living from day to day. That they can get up and get out, like Oprah did.

And ultimately, the skills they learn at this school are going to help their little brothers starving at home. Which everybody else except you seems to “get”.

Please do.

thanks!

Then the owner is still responsible. The owner cannot escape responsibility just by saying she trusted an employee.

Oprah only tries to do “something good” if it involves her own aggrandizement. She wanted her name in big letters but she didn’t really care or want to be informed about what was going on there. She only made this grovelling apology because she was afraid of what would happen to her own image.

Lemon Pledge?

I’m no fan of Oprah’s but what else is she supposed to do? She doesn’t hire–although she may now handpick the person that has oversight on whoever does.

Oprah was abused/molested as a child. I highly doubt she’d condone this stuff.

As for the inequities present in Africa–welcome to Africa, land of the rich and the destitute. She cannot feed and educate everyone. Kudos to her for educating girls-not always a priority on that continent (or others).

Isn’t there a quota of ‘whooshes’ in a thread? For some one who is ready to light the pitchforks over a woman who isn’t on top of every detail of a project run half way round the world as soon as it happens, you seem particularly inept at noticing stuff happening in your very own thread.

You just post like it?

I don’t know, but this ones on you.

I am not a Christian, but there is a biblical passage that I quite like.

It’s the one where Jesus’ desciples condemn the prostitute for washing Jesus’ feet with perfume that could be sold and the money given to the poor.

I think Jesus says, there will always be poor, let the woman give as her heart sees fit.

Oprah gives to Africa in more ways than opening the school. Still, she has a unique vision of offering those girls such an education and experience that they will truly shake off the entire mentality of crushing poverty and struggle, and rise up cultured and polished to a degree that they are capable of raising up the others in their community. If she throws in some hair salons, I say, let the children relax and enjoy them.

ETA : fix some spelling, posting from work, sorry
