Haha- fuck you Oafrah!
The kids should get down on their knees and thank the mighty Oafrah for making time in her busy schedule to come over an apologize!

And again, youre missing the point- she flew over the minute the accusations “surfaced”- very different from when the events actually happened. Someone who owns the place should be able to handle something like this before it ever surfaces, and should be aware of it before it “surfaces”.

And boarding schools in the US for rich kids are one thing- when you have poverty all over the fucking place and you pick a handful of kids to bask in luxury. that’s fucking insane. Girl A spends her day getting backrubs and her nails done, while her brother back home spends the day begging for spare change- wonderful.

Oafrah just says Lemon Pledge is the best thing ever, go run out and buy a case.
Do you think it’s possible no one said anything immediately? Do you think there’s a remote chance the kids were too scared to speak? What the fuck is wrong with you?

She has her faults, but this school isn’t one of them.
So, she doesn’t have any connection to the school, but she’s fully responsible for whatever happens there, because the school’s named after her, and she has a lot of money.

By this logic, if I hurt myself at the John Wayne Airport, I have legal standing to sue his estate. It’s his name on the building, and all those Westerns and war movies still generate a lot of revenue, and that’s all that matters, right?
gee, and you call me a drooling idiot- unless you’re pulling my leg, there’s a difference in a building being named in someone’s honor and named for them because they own it.
petulant- is that good or bad?

What if it turns out the schoolmarm had a history of abuse and no one bothered to check? What would the Oafrah defenders say then? Because for all anyone here knows, that’s a possibility.
If that turns out to have happened, that would be bad. It would also be bad if we learned that Oprah is funneling money to Osama bin Laden. Or if Oprah was running a secret child sex slave ring? That would also be bad. You know what would really be bad? If it turned out that Oprah was really Adoplh Hitler in a really cunning disguise, and her daytime talk show just the first step in ressurecting the Reich. That would totally suck.

So, if you ever have any evidence that any of these things are true, feel free to share. In the meantime, shut the fuck up, you goddamned idiot.
see, if that had happened, this would be an appropriate rant vs. the bullshit you’ve concocted. Oprah’s not being defended (really) as much as you’re being lambasted.
My comments stand regardless. Everyone against my opinion is basing it on factors they know nothing about.
No CEO claims on a friggin daily basis to know the inner workings of their company.
(confused look) Um, pretty much every CEO I’ve ever heard or read claims to know the inner workings of their company. Y’know, that whole “I’m in charge here” thing. While that isn’t the dumbest thing you’ve said in this thread, it’s still pretty stupid and uninformed.
How about for starters- “these are my girls they call me mama Oafrah”- doesn’t that imply to anyone that she is fronting involvement?
Cite that she actually said, “They call me Mama”?

Here’s mine.

By the same token, then, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation should be held liable if, for example, one of the youth development programs in rural Upper Kittitas County to whom it gave a $60,000 grant, turns out to be infested with child molesters. You would agree?

This analogy really sucks. A better one would be, “Wee Bairn donated $500 for the Wee Bairn Memorial Rose Garden Bench, upon which an act of molestation took place, and therefore Wee Bairn is responsible for that act of molestation.” He should have been there! Watching over it! Making sure that no child molesters could ever use it for that nefarious purpose!

What I meant was, would a CEO at McDonald’s claims to know what’s happening at the one off Route 8 in Piscataway?

You really think that Oprah owns the school where this happened? Man, you’re dumber than I thought.

You’re right, we hold no regard for your comments.

Regardless of anyones opinion of my post, surely someone in the know could step in and enlighten those who think Oafrah could in no way be financially liable? Because, you know, everything said by an OP you don’t agree with is automatically untrue.

Whoa. OK, then. That doesn’t even make sense.

So, so far we have an accusation against two authority figures in the school. They have been relieved of their duties promptly while the matter is investigated. Oprah has flown to Africa to show support and concern for the students and most likely to open a can of whoop ass on schoo’s staff.

Where do you get that she owes millions? A case has not even been brought to trial yet. It may never get that far–I am not familiar with the social constructs that surround that school–perhaps it will be like some crimes commited here–no trial etc. We don’t know. (and I’m not saying that’s what should happen).

I don’t get the outrage. I don’t get the Pitting. What is she supposed to do with these girls? Move them into her house? Wipe their asses for them? They need an education and a leg up–they’re getting that from Oprah. She has proven that it isn’t just a facade with her by flying there and suspending the principal and the teacher.
dropzone–sure they claim to be in the know–until their stock drops or they have to declare bankruptcy… :dubious:
And would someone explain about the damned Lemon Pledge? Between this and the bicycle sex thread, I’m getting very weird mental images. Thank you.

You get a about a 2 out of 10 for that one, one has to think to hard to get it.
And yes, that’s a set up for some other (lack)wit.
The image of Jesus just appeared on a Cinnabun at the O’Hare airport, why don’t you run pray to it.
Why? I’m not judging anybody. Can you say the same? Are you mad that you were insulted and didn’t catch it? Do you think I take more pleasure in your insult than hearing of the suffering of a child? Tell you what, I’ll pray that more people open their hearts like Oprah and do what they can to help those in need. And I’ll try to be more like you too, and turn the other cheek, so thanks.

This thread is more entertaining than Oprah.

Is anybody else’s irony meter flat out busted?

Wee Bairn, you never answer my question (and you won’t) about whether Oprah should not have helped anybody at all since there are still ill- and uneducated and starving children over there.

I think it’s some kind of weird Algonquin Roundtable thing. Those things do need dusting occasionally.

Again, it is: you obviously don’t know whats going on at the school, don’t sit on your show everyday and talk like you do. Trust me I am forced to watch this show every day almost, this is true. If no one believes this is true, she just yesterday on TV said “these are my girls, what do you call me?” “mama-Oafrah”. Doesn’t lthat alone show a level of feigned interaction that would not be possible given the circumstances? Isn’t that just another bullshit photo op? Admit you don’t know shit about the school and I got no gripe.

Maybe if you keep saying “Oafrah” enough times, that will change everybody’s mind.
you got me on semantics, you know what was meant.
No, in fact, I do not. You said Oprah should be sued because she owns the school. In point of fact, the school is almost certainly owned by a corporate entity created for the express purpose of assuming legal and financial responsibility for the operation of the charity. That’s not “semantics,” that’s a fundamental misunderstanding of one of the basic underpinnings of modern capitalism.

I turned it off before entering the thread – the replacement expenses just wouldn’t be worth it.
