Just to explain the motivation, there was a thread/post not too long ago, but long enough that I haven’t been able to find it, about hat hair and why men didn’t have the problem when everybody was wearing hats.

Hair tonic.

Name some brands.

VO5 Hairdressing

WD-40

STP

The smell of Brylcreem is permanently imprinted on my brain. I can remember being little and Dad dressing up in nice slacks, starched shirt and sweater vest and the final touch, Brylcreem for his grey hair.

It’s fun watching old movies where guys had their hair plastered down and they started to sweat and that goop dribbled down onto their forehead or onto their shirt.

Victor Mature comes to mind.

And then there’s that scene in Raising Arizona where the brothers tunnel out of prison and wind up in a rest room with some pomade.

Or Oh, Brother. Where Art Thou? and Clooney’s quest for Dapper Dan (or whatever it was.)

Flat top wax!

Don’t remember a brand “flat top wax.” But there was Butch Wax

Not a brand as such. Just the concept. Mine was in a tube, maybe an inch in diameter, and worked like a lipstick. Pink. Smelled like Gojo

I don’t remember if there was a similar treatment for ducktails.
