I don’t think you’re That Guy, but my reference was to the opening of Wide World of Sports, where the voiceover is talking about “The thrill of victory, the agony of defeat”, and during the “agony of defeat” part, they show a ski-jumper crashing.
At least, I think that’s how it went. I might be misremembering the details.
Waht do you mean, you think that’s how it went? “The agony of defeat” was a meme before there were memes.
Damn, I’m old.
The original Agony of Defeat guy was Vinko Bogataj. I saw some women’s ski jumping a few months ago and there was an Urša Bogataj competing. I haven’t been able to find out if she’s any relation.
I assume the OP is specifically talking about freestyle and snowboarding, not alpine (if the former aren’t considered alpine skiing – I’m assuming they are not), because I noticed the same thing. Half-pipe, slopestyle, etc, all the women seemed to do what he was referring to. Basically, the observation applies if it’s a skiing or snowboarding sport where they wear baggy gear instead of the skin-tight aerodynamic alpine suits.
I don’t actually think the “loose strand of hair” thing has anything to do with snowboarding or the Olympics. Because I see women on the street doing it when they are wearing hats or have their hair in a ponytail or bun . I think it’s just that a lot of women prefer the look of the loose hair to the look without it/
