It comes down to these people choosing to access information sources that peddle lies. They choose these information sources because some of the lies appeal to them, and then by consuming these information sources find that their other opinions are bent to align with the other, even more outrageous crap peddled by those information sources.
Sometimes I think that draconian slander laws could do wonders here - slander somebody on the news, learn that your prison cell doesn’t include broadcasting privileges. (The slanderous statements would have to be proven to be false, of course.) Of course corrupt administrations and courts could use this to imprison, like, everyone, so there are a few potential downsides. And of course it does nothing to stop foreign agents disseminating propaganda on facebook and twitter.
Maybe. Or they’re just messing with pollsters. If I was polled and asked if I believed Trump was the “spawn of his mother having sex with an orangutan" I might very well response “yes.” Because, why the fuck not?

I would like to see a poll in which Republicans were asked to list what they dislike about Democratic politicians. If, say, a third, without prompting, mentioned that they are child molesters, then I would be more concerned.
Anecdote: this tracks with what I’ve seen/heard from real life facebook friends on my feed. Joe Biden is 100% a racist and pedophile, and Democrats are stupid, stupid, stupid, hateful people.
It’s just people using beliefs as a means of identifying with a group.
Do they actually believe that Democrats are pedophiles? Who knows. But what they do believe is that their “team” is supposed to believe it, so claiming otherwise would be disloyal. It’s like wearing a team jersey, only instead of a shirt, it’s a version of reality.
I know some people who believe in this crap. For them, it’s not just to fit in.
If what I’ve seen elsewhere on the web is any indication, then no. However, many, but not all Democrats, are pedophiles; those who aren’t are socialists and communists who will sell America out to the globalists. Not sure who these globalist people are–perhaps the UN, who knows–but apparently, they’re all Marxists. But Joe and Hunter definitely are pedophiles, and once Joe and that socialist Kamala Harris (all of whom are on the payroll of the Chinese Communist Party) lose to Trump (who will win in a landslide), Trump will have Hunter, Joe, and Kamala locked up on charges of pedophilia and treason, and eventually executed. Thus making America great again.
I may have confused a few different sources, but that’s a summary of what I’ve seen out there. Trump supporters really do inhabit a different reality. It’s imaginary, to most Americans, Democrats and Republicans (I hope!), but it’s very real in Trumpers’ minds
