Both of these (and many other claims like this) are explained by the following observation.
About 50% of partisans regardless of their true beliefs will answer whatever survey presented to them in a way that makes their guy look the best and the other guy look the worst.
A few years ago Bricker started a thread about a study that demonstrated that the results of these surveys change markedly when people are given money for answering correctly. Most Trump voters probably realize that Clinton actually running a child sex ring is a bit far fetched, but that doesn’t mean they don’t like sticking it to her by answering in a survey that they think she does.
17% of survey participants either
a) filled in the wrong oval on the survey form
b) don’t like taking surveys and so decided to screw up the results for fun
c) Voted for Clinton despite not liking her and reveled at the chance to call her a pedophile.
I prefer to believe that it is merely a plurality that actually wants him to lead while the remainder are holding their nose and praying for divine intervention.
Even the Germans had the July 20th plot. I expect there’s multiple impeach Trump cells within Republican leadership circles these days. They’re walking the party line right now but are readying papers for the day Trump makes a big enough misstep.
Not that I am eager for a President Pence or anything. But at least he’s unlikely to send out a 3 am tweet that Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia are losers who really don’t belong in NATO.
Given all they (I’m not including dasmoocher here) did to “retake” their party in the days of and after Whitewater, Vince Foster, and The Clinton Chronicles et al. what evidence is there that the Rs are actually interested in being the “loyal opposition”.
“Pizzagate” is just another example of how low they’re willing to go. (And it’s a joke given the admissions of sexual misconduct of the folks that thought a consensual blow-job was beyond the pale.)
Hey, I didn’t hear about the pizzagate nonsense until after the election. Maybe that 17% regrets voting for her?
I think the takeaway from both of these polls is that people don’t really listen, parse, or think when you ask them a question. If you boil both questions down to their essentials:
I’ve only visited the Breibart site once, just to see what it was about. It’s a farce. But I’m willing to bet they were running Pizzagate stories before the election.
