This would have been on MTV mid- to late-1980s (it’s dimly possible it was VH-1). It was a talk/interview show, and I’m reasonably sure it was a regular series.
In the episode I’m trying to remember, they were talking to a promoter/producer kind of guy who had (IIRC) worked with lots of bands, sometimes shaping them early enough on to help them decide on their band name. The specific quote I half-remember is him explaining that he would encourage bands to choose short names like “Yes” and “GTR” because you can put a name like that in much larger type on a poster than you can with something like “The Fabulous Thunderbirds.” I remember being struck by the practicality of it from a promoter’s point of view.
I’m trying to remember what the show was but mainly who the person being interviewed was. Thanks in advance.
