A quick name-that-TV-show question

I’m drawing a complete blank on this. All I remember is the opening credits and maybe one scene. I honestly can’t remember if it was a good show, a great show, or some piece of crap that was rightfully forgotten. A cheesy show from the 80s? A cable show? Beats me.

It was a sitcom of sorts; I think it was somewhat offbeat. Maybe something like Parker Lewis or Herman’s Head. But since I can’t remember anything else, perhaps it was more Three’s Company meets Small Wonder.

The opening credit scenes were of the main character being plopped down in front of a television set from birth through childhood. TV was a huge influence on him. Throughout the show, he would flash to television scenes or something like that. The only bit I remember is where his (ex?) girlfriend is giving him some bad news and with each clause he is getting hit by a boxer.

Yep, that’s all I remember. We put The Dude down facing the television earlier tonight and he was fascinated by the light — the opening credits (and nothing more) popped into my mind and now I have that what the hell was that show jones.

I’m pretty sure the opening montage and concept were distinctive enough to make this an easy question, but then again, I could be making the whole thing up. Ring any bells? And more importantly, was the show any good?

Dream On. And it seemed OK; never had HBO in its time, tho’. See URL for critical reception. It was at least somewhat significant for its time.

Four minutes – Thanks!

It looks like it made it six seasons; suggests it had something going for it.
