I guess Oates can no longer make Hall’s dreams come true, so he said “I can’t go for that”, hired some private eyes, and decided to show him what a maneater he can be.
So are there any famous musical duets that don’t hate each other?
Hall and Oates
Simon and Garfunkel
Gallagher brothers (Watermelon not Wonderwall, not that Wonderwall Gallagher brothers don’t hate each other but they aren’t a duet)
The Wilson sisters were on the outs for years because Ann’s husband beat up Nancy’s son backstage at a concert in 2016 (which I was at!), but they reunited last month so I assume they patched things up.
The Captain and Tenille divorced in 2014, although according to Wikipedia, they “remained close friends until his death.”
The Davies brothers (of The Kinks) had a love-hate relationship over the years. As far as I know, nowadays they get along okay but don’t spend much time together.
Johns Linnell and Flansburgh of They Might Be Giants have been together since the early 80s, and I haven’t heard of any rancor between them.
Based on numerous interviews I’ve read over the years, I don’t think that they ever stopped hating one another; it’s just that they managed to temporarily bury the hatchet from time to time.
I’ve always considered them the canonical example of a super talented musical duet that now hates each other (despite occasionally sharing the same stage for financial purposes)
That’s just the gist I got from documentaries and such. I weirdly went through a simon and Garfunkel stage as a teenager;)
If I were in my 70s, I might not want to tour regardless of how well I liked my partner. But damn, this line was cold.
“In 1990, Simon and Garfunkel were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Garfunkel thanked Simon, calling him “the person who most enriched my life by putting those songs through me”; Simon responded, ‘Arthur and I agree about almost nothing. But it’s true, I have enriched his life quite a bit.’”
According to some sources they were a sham relationship from pretty early on, and kept it up for the money. After they divorced it was still “we’re friends” but only all about the money, not about any reality.
I can’t vouch for the version I’m citing versus the version in wiki. But at their level, telling stories for money has got to be real tempting.
Kate Micucci has been releasing some solo songs lately and they’re petty bad. I don’t know if they’re split up or just doing their own thing for a while.
