Hallmark hates Daughters (weak rant)

I read this and was admiring your excruciating correctness, when I noticed your location and had to laugh.

Lucretia’s location is “hiding from my mother”

Well, Miss Manners never said that the lovely personal note to Mom had to have a return address.

Which brings us to my Hallmark pet peeve, which is that it is very difficult to find a Mother’s Day card for a mother who wasn’t loving and kind and a wonderful example to you, but you have to give her a card or she’ll make your life even more miserable.

Oh ferrcrissakes…

Do we NOT know that people go to card shops because they have difficulty finding the words to express their feelings???

Sometimes we can glean the true meaning of a post by context and subtle hints.

For the sharp of mind and quick of wit, a few subtle clues have presented themselves in this very thread.

For the dull of mind and lame of wit (an astonishingly large population for a board committed to fighting ignorance), the meaning has been explained with excruciating verissimilitude, repeatedly. The OP wasn’t serious. Get the fuck over yourselves.

Uh…David? Andy IS a classic female basher. He never provided a cite at all, and he never backed up any of his arguments. He kept providing quotes from ten, twenty or thirty years ago. He never realized that one extreme feminist does not a whole movement make. He could not prove any of his more rabid claims, which is why he slithered away from that debate, as well as from the Feminist Fiction one he started, which was based on a flat-out lie.

And David Byron, huh? Boy, does that name sound familiar. Are you the same David Byron who was banned from the Ms. Boards for trolling and being misogynist?

Sometimes you think you’ve found a way to keep Freddy down once and for all. Then lightning strikes his grave, and oh no! He’s up and at it again!

Daniel

Heh. That’s okay, Daniel, this time I assure you I’m not going to bother. Hee. Anti-feminists as the perpetual villain. It would be funnier if it weren’t true.

SAL, I think you could do with lightening up a little. Probably just sticking to the facts (old or young, Hallmark do more cards for you if you’re female) and leaving out the namecalling would have drawn less flak. You and I both know that certain citizens hereabouts are only too willing to cry “Misogynist!” on the least excuse, and there’s probably no point courting it any more than you can help.

I found my fuse thoroughly lit by a card, I misremember whether it was Hallmark or not, that featured a recurrent character called “Dot” (female, bespectacled, slightly frumpy, somewhat eccentric). In this particular instance, it was a party scene and there was a man lying on the floor looking gormless while assorted planets, spirals and similar symbols danced around his head. " ‘No, he’s not drunk,’ said Dot, ‘I’ve just kicked him in the balls.’ " You’d have thought I’d roar with laughter, wouldn’t you?

So far as Gor novels go, I can only say that none of the 20-odd I’ve read have lit my fuse that way, but I know by reputation of quite a few people who find them thoroughly stimulating (ah, the wonders of the Internet). Strangely, a good 50% of them are female, and a very large slice of these would be eager to identify with the slaves. Go figure. At all events, “masturbating to Gor novels” doesn’t seem to be a very good barometer of misogyny, or, for that matter, being male.
Hmm… And I see someone else has put himself on ground zero to be accused of “being banned from the Ms boards for trolling and being misogynistic”. I’m guessing the latter offence is about as difficult to commit thereabouts as it is for a kajira to earn herself a whipping or a rape.

Uh…Mal, sweetie? When somebody goes by the exact same name as did a notorious poster, posts in the same style, and posts on the same subjects with the same attitude, it’s not exactly an LBJ-shot-JFK-from-the-grassy-knoll kind of stab in the dark. Just so you know.

Closed at the request of the OP.

Satisfying Andy Licious, you’re really fucking annoying. That’s not a warning, it’s an observation. But who knows, it might become a warning when you keep this sort of behaviour up.
