halloween music!

You gotta have something from The Ghost and Mr. Chicken.

The Intruder, Peter Gabriel
Moribund the Burgermeister, Peter Gabriel
I Am Stretched on Your Grave, Sinead O’Connor (and others)
Jackie, Sinead O’Connor
Long Black Veil, The Chieftains with Mick Jagger (and many others)
Mack the Knife (it is about a kind of monster, after all), Nick Cave (and many others)
The Mercy Seat, Nick Cave
Almost anything by Nick Cave actually, Nick Cave
Scary Monsters (and Super Creeps), David Bowie (she had an horror of rooms)
Future Legend/Diamond Dogs, David Bowie (Halloween Jack is a real cool cat)
This Is Halloween, Danny Elfman
I Walked With a Zombie, R.E.M. (originally by Roky Erikson)
Grim Grinning Ghosts (Disney’s Haunted Mansion theme), Rick Mancina
Possum Kingdom, The Toadies

Careful With That Axe, Eugene.

Awesome.

How about This is Halloween
From the Nightmare before Christmas!

The Smiths had several songs that would work for Halloween:

Cemetery Gates
Girlfriend in a Coma
Death at One’s Elbow (“There’s somebody here who’ll take a hatchet to your ear…”)

Vicar In A Tutu says Halloween to me, too, but I may be just a little twisted…

I also like Queen Anne’s Revenge by Flogging Molly for a bit of pirate flavor to my Halloween playlist. Undead by Hollywood Undead has a lot of horror elements in the beginning of the song, but the lyrics do seem to feature the versatility of the word “fuck”, so you may not want it if small kids will be listening.

I give you Captain Clegg and the Night Creatures

Created for/by Rob Zombie for Halloween 2 - and the only redeemable thing from that movie.

Two fun Halloween novelty songs, meant for a children’s party but I like them.

Ride the Witch’s Broom Lois Zucek

Sarcophagus Shuffle Lois Zucek

Creepy Doll by Jonathan Coulton

(he doesn’t make videos, he just doesn’t sue people who do make videos of his songs)

Also by him try

Skullcrusher Mountain

The Future Soon

Still Alive

Turkish Song of the Damned - The Pogues

Roland the Headless Thompson Gunner - Warren Zevon

Jezebel Spirit - Byrne/ Eno

How could I forget this one?

Haunted House by Jumpin’ Gene Simmons (not the Kiss guy).

If this has already been listed, my apologies. I didn’t see its title anywhere, and I didn’t click on the videos that didn’t give a title.

If this has not already been listed – My God! What’s this world coming to! This and “Monster Mash” are the two songs that have been played to death for Halloween by top 40 stations for decades.
