Halloween, Wallace & Grommit, and a Joke! ....Guest MMP

Really! I’ve never heard of fried pumpkin seeds. My DH is insufferable when it comes to roasted seeds - we were at a birthday party last weekend and there was a pumpkin carving contest for the kids. As they were bringing out the pumpkins to be carved, he grabs a big bowl and says “SAVE THE SEEDS!”

So, we bring home a salad bowl full of slimy orange goop and seeds. Oh joy. By the time I was done soaking them in brine, picking out the orange goop and roasting them, we had about a quart of seeds. I’m not sure how I got involved as I don’t even like them! Last night, he scarfed down the last of them. I think I’m safe for another year…

In completely unrelated news, my replacement first aid box arrived this morning. It’s bigger than I’d envisioned, but that’s OK as now I’ve actually got comfortable room to add things like CPR masks, a BP cuff and stethoscope. Before, I was limited mainly to bandages, tape and similar small things. As that goofy alligator chaser from Animal Planet might say, “It’s HEEWGE!” I have no doubts that I’ll be able to fill it.

Heh… Took five minutes for Google to switch the ads from mailing lists to pumpkin seeds, Halloween candy and automatic defibrillators.

What? No safari trips to see alligators?

Ellen --it just started about 2-3 days ago. I think I may have inadvertently changed some settings when I was trying to do a flowchart for work. I couldn’t get the damn box to go over to the left margin, so I fiddled around and may have changed this settings as well, not meaning to. I have no idea what I did or even how I did it, but I have never had this problem before.

gotpasswords --it is very sweet of you to help me, but I don’t know what a Restore Point is, either.

Deep dark confessions time (probably end up lifetime banned, but here goes): I turn the computer on, click on AOL and go to favs and here I am. I can do rudimentary copying and pasting; I can code very simply; I can IM and email stuff.

Everything else is a foreign land and language. Pathetic, but there it is. I just foudn out my browser is AOL. I have no idea what kind of server we use (I do know we ahve a DSL line).

I share this computer with the kids. I cannot tell you how much I want to get my very own–and I promise to learn about it before I use it. But that’s another thread.(am saving pennies over here for it).

[mini-rant] I know it is just me, but the “help” menus in Windows just suck. They really aren’t very helpful. I would purchase a Windows XP for Dummies book, but I don’t want this kind when I buy my own. [/min-rant]

Tuppy There will be signs. Oh yes, there will be. And they better be ready for distribution when I get home from work, or those useless things that never leave their bedrooms will be getting no cuts of from the sale.

eleanor that is what’s happening to the leftovers. If Salvation Army thrift store won’t take it, there are many many dumpsters between them and the house.

Rue wouldn’t a vet know enough to get out of the way of a popping zit? Are you sure you want to work for this guy? Seems like he does a lot of squeezing of animal parts.

Have a good weekend, y’all. I do think we need to revisit the doughnut posts to decide the TMI for this week though. Maybe one of those posts was a little subtle.

Restore points explained - scroll down to “Create Restore Points Manually”

The “Use System Restore” section immediately above explains how to use a point to “roll back” your configuration.

Just occurred to me…

You also might want to take this problem over to General Questions so it can be seen by more Windows gurus. I’m just a security guy that happens to know a thing or two about desktop computers, and a disappearing right-click menu is odd enough that someone over there’s probably seen it before.

Cool! and thanks for all your help, security guy who is good with desktop computers!
(need blowing kisses smiley here)

I roasted some pumpkin seeds over the weekend. But they’re almost gone! How do I get more (without buying like 5 pumpkins)?? I need my seeds!

The Lily kitty has to go to the vet tomorrow to get shots. Boy, that’s going to be a blast. If I’m not here on Monday, I got scratched to death!

Anyone here know where I can find 2000sks of oilfield grade class G cement by tomorrow?

Apparently our procurement people don’t either so I ahve spent the entire day on the phone hunting it down but my boss thought he could do it so he interfered slowed the whole process down then when he realised he was way out of his depth came back to me and told me to find it…

Week from hell all round with sucky work and the sucky men that work here and their sucky chauvanistic attitudes. I don’t think even chocolate & wine will fix this tonight

Have a good weekend everyone! I promise to be in a much better mood on Monday.

The bloody stupid annoying condescending twit at the doctor’s office mis-scheduled Mr. Lissar’s appointment for yesterday, but told me it was for today. Now he can’t get another one until the 14 unless we both haul ourselves up tomorrow to the walk-in clinic early in the morning (which means Mr. Lissar will arrive having not slept: he’s working from midnight till noon on Sunday) and since I can’t frigging get to sleep before six or seven in the morning it’ll be just great getting up at 8!

And it won’t even be his damned doctor he’ll get to see, so the only point in going is so he can get his necessary-for-work doctor’s note saying he fainted and hasn’t been feeling well. No good overall check-up, and not another chance to see our doctor until ten days from now!

Grr. %&*%*&! ##@@*!

I’m going to be all calm. I get to see Serenity again in a couple of hours, and I’m going to be all calm.

I gather this is a whole lot of something fancier than the Sakrete they sell at Home Depot?

I took off early today, and we went to the boat to remove a bunch of our personal stuff. It’s like selling a house - you need to make it as impersonal as possible. So we have a vanload of stuff, and next week, FCD will go back and get the last of it. And if we don’t sell it, we’ll just take part of it back aboard. So we’ll have cleaned it up, which is good.

Tomorrow, we’re going to look at boats for sale in Annapolis, after my ceramics class. So if ours does sell, we’ll have an idea of what we want to get to replace it.

And my Dr’s office called. My triglycerides are way good, but my bad cholesterol is still bad (tho not as bad as it was), so I’ll be starting on Lipitor. Just what I need - another pill. But in the grand scheme of things, it’s not a biggie.

Tomorrow is slated as Throw Things Off The Balcony Day at Casa Draelin. I figure now is as good a time as any to start getting rid of stuff I don’t really need in preparation for the move. The difficulty is that I live in a garden apartment complex. In order to throw anything out, I have to go down the stairs inside my apartment, through the door, through the vestibule, out the front door, then fifty yards down the walk, another flight of stairs inconveniently broken into a 4-3-4 pattern, down a hill about another twenty yards, and then heave it into the dumpster, whose lower lip is taller than I am. Throwing things off the balcony requires only getting them outside, then going to the “back lawn” (which nobody uses as a lawn) and retrieving it, much closer to the actual dumpster.

Plus, there’s the added bonus of getting to throw a busted air conditioner off a second-floor balcony.

Took Cricket and Bill the Cat in for their annual vaccinations today - so another night without kitty kisses for me. Just sitting here wasting time till the Cottonmouths game comes on the internet feed - about 4 more minutes. We really need a win!

Apparently, I’m going home this weekend. Just found out about an hour ago. Gonna be fun and awesome.

No win. Lost 5-2 to Huntsville. We’ve played 5 games this season and lost 5 games.

I’m depressed. The book-eating cat just jumped up in the bookshelf and I haven’t even run her out.

I really wish that you had put spaces in your name. Every time I see it, I ALWAYS think “Snake scat lady”.

Good Saturday morning!!! I’ve had breakfast, read the paper and am on my second cup of tea. I’m thinking about going to the library in a bit and considering going shopping after a while. I really really want a laptop and have been thinking about buying an iBook. Still deciding which size and whether to buy one at all…

Woke up coughing last night - very annoying. Haven’t had a bout of respiratory whatsis in over 2 years and it’s making me impatient.

Dr. Honcho seems to have a real penchant for squeezing things, doesn’t he? Yuck.

ems, hope you found the cement…

Sorry the hockey team didn’t win, SCL.

Throwing things off the balcony sounds like fun, Drae. I have a few extras here, but no balcony… :frowning:

Hope the gar(b)age sale goes well Sean.

How’d the doctor stuff go, Lissla?

Hi to everyone else I missed.

I’m coughing again; I think I’ll go take a shower and then go find the humidifier and see if it still works. Otherwise I’ll be replacing it…

GT

Actually, no I don’t. But Google does, so when I asked them, they asked me if I meant “sebaceous” rather than what I tried the first time, and of course, I said “Yes! That’s what I mean!”

What’s the big deal on frying up pumpkin seeds Swampy? It’s a traditional thing. At least roasting them is traditional. Frying them is just faster. And it’s not like I was deep frying them. (Although that idea might have merit. Especially if the seeds popped like popping corn…)
You know what? I’m trying to post on our new computer. It’s much faster now that we’ve ditched dial-up and gone to high-speed whatever. (But it still comes over the phone lines. So how is it not “dial up”? Just because the computer doesn’t have to dial nuthin’? Maybe? Dunno. But it’s zippy fast now, so “yay!”) But the thing is now I have a new browser to contend with (Safari rather than Explorer). It seems to be working OK, but I’m still not used to things. (Like opening multiple windows for different threads and stuff. Safari isn’t being as accomodating about it. It takes a whole extra step. So far.)

My life is just a trial.

I am calm. Sorry about the hissy fit.

We got to the doctor’s office this morning, and the secretary (the one who did the mis-scheduling) told us that the walk-in clinic was closed because the doctor was sick.

So after a brief conversation about how nice it would be to be able to throw big three-year-old type tantrums we trotted off to the next closest walk-in clinic, waited for an hour, and got Mr. Lissar a doctor’s note to present to work and the advice that 'he should see his family doctor as soon as possible".

I think if we work on this we can turn it into a good story with lots of melodrama.
On the up side, we’re thinking about ordering a shiny new computer this week.

I think I need ice cream.
