Halloween, Wallace & Grommit, and a Joke! ....Guest MMP

Sounds like I have a busy day ahead of me. I’ve already had my coffee, read my newspaper, done the crosswords, and taken my shower.

I need to fix my hair, and head on out to the grocery store. After that I need to tidy up my house. After that I need to prepare dinner and after that we’re heading out to the comedy club with some friends.

It’s rainy and dreary here. That’s November in Washington. The upside is there is a lot of snow coming down in the mountains.

Lissa , I hope they figure out what’s wrong with the hubby. There’s nothing worse than having to wait.

Well, I have nothing of importance to report and I don’t have anything exciting to report either. My life is most definitely mundane.

Just remember that “Snakes” is the nickname for the Columbus Cottonmouths. I hate the idea of anyone associating sweet little ole me with snake shit!

Speaking of Snakes, they’re playing again tonight in Huntsville. We really, really need a win. On the bright side, if this losing crap keeps up there won’t be as many bidders at the jersey auction on the 19th.

Mr. SCL has gone to the cabin to cut grass. I need to go up and look for more river rocks for my garden retaining wall, but I guess I’ll wait until tomorrow.

Tee heee.

Back from a shopping extravaganza. Target, Trader Joe’s, Borders, Penzey’s.

I exceeded the $40 shopping fee at Target by $100, so that wasn’t too bad. Got a bunch of DVDs from the $14 or less department (mostly from the $6 club even). Got a vaporizer. Bought cough drops and cough syrup. And two pairs of boots. Cute little just above the ankle ones and then some almost-to-the-knee ones. They were only $20 a pair and are actual winter boots, not just decorative ones. Now it’ll probably be warm all winter.

At TJ’s I got the usual greek yogurt and peanut-butter-filled pretzels. At the sample station they had spinach and goat cheese quesadillas that turned out to be really yummy. I bought several for emergencies. Such as the late lunch/early dinner I’m eating right now. Next time I’ll probably just make them myself, though.

Borders and Penzey’s were part of a search for the boss’s Christmas present. We’re thinking we want to get him something barbecue related because he really likes to grill. So I waded through the pretentious ones (Bobby Flay and another Food Channel compilation) and added a couple to the list of potential books. One is the Everything Barbecue Book and another is Paul Kirk’s Championship Barbecue Sauces. They looked good in the store and the Amazon reviews (especially of the sauce one) are really good. We’re also going to get him some herbs and spices for barbecuing; figured I’d stop by Penzey’s to get a booklet so we can dream ourselves up a good combo. Also found some stuff for my Mom for Christmas. I’m thinking about getting some of the barbecue stuff for my brother too.

Sounds like the medical world is conspiring against Mr. Lissar. Maybe this means he’s just fine…?

Tons of stuff to do this afternoon: laundry, general clean-up (especially kitchen and bath), finish chicken soup, I’m sure there was more…

What a wonderful day we had!! We got up early, and my sweetie and I headed to Prince Frederick for breakfast on our way to Annapolis. It was a glorious, beautiful morning - and the trees are so beautiful!!

In Annapolis, I went to my ceramics class, and FCD headed to several boatyards looking at some boats for sale. Specifically one boat. He came back to pick me up at the end of my class, and after I changed, we went to look at what may become our boat. It’s a Hans Christian 36 (a whole foot shorter than the one we have) that a widow is trying to sell. She and her husband sailed it a lot, but he died in the spring and she wants to be rid of it. It has lots of beautiful teak inside and out. It’s a cutter rig, so it carries 3 sails. The cushions inside are marginal, and the upholstery is hideous, but that’s easily fixed. It’s also in need of some serious cleaning. There are just 2 things that concern me - a section of teak trim on the starboard bow doesn’t look right - it’s warped or coming loose or something - could be masking a deeper problem. The other thing is by one of the scuppers on the starboard side - there’s a crack and I can’t tell how deep it is. My concern is water intrusion into the core at that point. My husband thinks the rudder has some water within it, but we’ve dealt with that before - it’s a fairly easy fix.

The broker who’s handling the Hans Christian has several clients who have been looking for a boat like the one we’re selling, so maybe it’ll all come together.

We looked at another boat similar to one we had some years back. It wasn’t bad, although there was some fiberglass damage on the stern, and there was evidence of electrical problems inside. I like that particular model - a Newport 30 - but this one was over priced as far as we’re concerned. Plus it’s really more of a day sailer or a weekender, but when we retire, we’ll want to spend several months at a time afloat, and the Newport would be just a little cozy.

We want to look at a few Catalinas, maybe next weekend, but they’d have to really wow us to bump the Hans Christian out of the running.

Is that enough boring boat talk?

As for ceramics, I’ve thrown 12 pieces so far, and there are 4 more classes, so I’ll probably get at least 6 more pieces done.

Life is good.

Lissla hope all goes well with Mr. Lissar and this doctor stuff gets better soon.

Sean hope the gar(b)age sale went well.

SCL may the Cottonmouths win tonight.

Rue YAY! For the new 'puter.

Everybody Else hi and stuff. Hope whatever your doin’ is good.

I had a busy, busy, busy day! I helped pack up the kitchen at church and to move some office stuff over to the temp offices. Then, I came home and cleaned up my back porch. It was filthy! Hosed down the floor and wiped down all the chairs and tables and such. Then, I hauled some ladder back chairs out of storage, cleaned 'em up and put some min wax [sup]TM[/sup] on ‘em. They’re sittin’ on the back porch to get all dry and stuff. I did this cause, the other thing I did today was sell my present dining room table and china cabinet. Then the other china cabinet that I own that was in my breakfast area got moved into the dining room. Then, the other dining room table that I own (bought it at an estate sale and stored it at ACBG’s place til I sold the one I had) got put in my dining room. So, the ladder back chairs (that I had already bought for the table in the dining room now) got to come out of my storage building and get all purtied up.

WHEW! I’m tired. So is ACBG cause he helped me with all this stuff. He’s been such a sweetie today, I guess I’ll have to be nice a few days now.

Have a great evening or whatever it is wherever y’all are everybody!

P.S. I did not go to the suit store. Can y’all believe that! See, the dining room stuff sale happened kinda unexpectedly (ok, I had advertised it for sale but hadn’t heard anything) yesterday evening. So, all this stuff got to happen because of it. Also, I’m $950 dollars richer today! WOOHOO!

[sub]Besides it ain’t like they ain’t gonna put suits on sale during Christmas.[/sub]

My doctor says my shoulder is all better and I can stop using that stoopid sling! Yay!! An extra special Yay! since I haven’t actually worn the damn thing as instructed in about 3 weeks.

We went to the last home football game of the season – not the expected bloodbath, considering it was between Montana Tech (Go Diggers!) and our most hated rivals Carroll College, but we still lost – again.
I need a “College Football For Dummies” book. Hockey makes sense – football is just silly. I yell or boo when everyone else does without having a clue as to why, and spend most of the rest of the time people watching.

Then a herd of college kids came to the house afterwards. It’s kind of sweet how they have all adopted “The Old Guy” as their surrogate big brother or Cool Father-figure type – and I’m sure my cooking massive amounts of real food at the drop of a hat has nothing to do with their “dropping by.” The herd has departed, probably to a location with alcohol.

So . . . I do believe it is now beer-thirty.

Well, I had a good day. (And I’ll put my best wishes to actual-husband-Lisslar here, so I don’t forget. And I misspelled here to be herre on first try, and no, I’m not Nelly).

Anyway, my good day consisted of going to a Southern Living party, which was fun. But the great part is that the hostess was someone from work, and she told me something really nice that my boss’ boss said about me. Don’t want to say anything beyond that, but let’s just say it gave my heart the greatest lift.

And then I came home and tried on the dress I am planning to wear to our company Christmas party. It is gorgeous. And the party should be fun. It’s at the same place it was last year - the air & space museum extension. Let me tell ya, it’s pretty cool to be standing next to the space shuttle and eating a decadent dessert.

Don’t tell me. Bananas Foster.

Well, pooh. Our dryer has died. We’re pretty sure it’s the heating element. So I just finished ordering a new laundry pair. Our washer isn’t particularly good and I’ve been wanting a front loading model, so in a few days, we should have a shiny new pair of Frigidaire appliances.

I also think I’ve been poisoned - or poison ivied. I thought it was bug bites, but the way it’s spread I’m pretty sure I got into poison ivy. So I’m calamined, fighting the urge to scratch. Poot.

On the other hand, it’s a beautiful day, and I have the house opened. What a glorious November day!!

It was supposed to be raining, windy and thundering all morning. Perfect weather for our scheduled (with no rain day) garden clean-up at church.

Instead, it started clearing up just before 10:00 mass, stayed sunny, dry and warm (although windy) until 1:30 as we were done and just finishing a little tour to see what we want to do next year. (If it had rained, I wouldn’t have been able to help.) Yay!

Oh, and Ashes, if you’re out there, I found the marigolds you needed for the Day of the Dead. They were blooming in our garden. I didn’t want to pull them up, but it should be freezing any time now and they would be toast anyway. Smelled wonderful.

Now I’m going to clean inside for a while and maybe do some laundry. And maybe some baking. I have 3 old bananas that should be perfect for banana bread.

Oh…and “Bananas Foster” made me giggle, donkeybear.

GT

I wish someone would do my laundry. I would pay them 4 dollars.
