Han Solo prequel planned

Not a lot of outright modern post LOTR-CGI, but a lot of FX work (and “big budget” is subjective) - Willow? Cocoon? The Grinch? That should give you an indication he can at least handle sciffy movies and action.

I guess Kessel Run it is.

Apollo 13 wasn’t done with cardboard models and a camcorder.

Interesting - and I guess there used to be an escape craft between the Falcon’s bow “forks.”

There’s also the Lego Kessel Run Millennium Falcon, complete with “Kessel Operations Droid”.

That idea has been around since at least 1982, as a proposed-but-unsold Mini Rig. I see that it even has a Wookieepidia backstory. (And so does the CAP-2–that was one of my favorite SW toys as a child.)

I’ve generally figured that the front forks were supposed to hold a standard shipping container between them (whatever shape and size the galaxy-far-far-away standard shipping container was).

I thought that was where the kessel ran…

That one, too.

Yeah, that’s a standard explanation for it. Of course, the real story is that the Tantive IV design was originally supposed to be the Millennium Falcon. That design had plenty of internal space for carrying cargo (and escape pods, as mentioned when the MF was captured by the Death Star) but they switched the design with something that would have to be a Tardis to have as much space inside as the Falcon is supposed to have, and even then you can’t realistically imagine it to have much cargo room, so they have to kludge the cargo to the outside.

(ETA: The Tantive IV type ship was able to travel at a blazing maximum speed of 950 kilometers per hour!)

I always assumed that most of the disk was originally cargo space, before Han’s and Chewie’s modifications.

The YT-1300 was basically the SW version of the DC-3/C-47 Dakota - small, simple, and could carry a few tons of cargo to wherever you want.

Huh. Didn’t know that before. Thanks!

There actually was just such a movie released in 1984: The Ice Pirates

Yeah, because no-one had ever done a train robbery in a film before that TV show.

I think this looks like fun.

My big fear is that they are going to try to work in fan service to appease the whiny “true fans” and make Boba Fett and/or Jabba appear.

I hear Jar Jar has a major role. :stuck_out_tongue:

Probably not in this one (though maybe), but if they ever make a second (which I guess might be possible) I expect Jabba to appear in it.

Or if they make a Kenobi movie, I think as it would be largely restricted to Tattooine that they would include Jabba appearing in it.

There are a LOT of new Star Wars episodes yet to come, and that’s only what’s been officially announced.

a new video with clips and comments from the actors and Ron Howard

I still can’t believe nobody’s referred to Ron Howard as “Opie-wan” yet.

I’m hoping there’ll be a scene where Woody Harrelson’s mentor character casually blows away a bad guy who has them cornered, and then tells Han “if you get the shot, take it… never give the other guy a chance to shoot first.”

especially if the other guy has a big curved sword .
