Han Solo prequel planned

Trailer is up.
I’m feeling a little more hopeful. I’m generally suspicious of a movie featuring a character or characters who had previously been a supporting type (Minions, anyone?). And, frankly, Han is a cocky, smug jerk. Decent, in his way, but still a jerk.
But, while I’d prefer to see something based on, say, the Rogue Squadron series of books, or featuring some new and different stories set in this enormous playground, it looks like this will be, at least, entertaining, and that’s all I really ask for.

I’m torn between wanting it to contribute *something *to the greater SWU, and just wanting it to be fun, full stop. Right now, I’m leaning toward hoping it’s a fun caper-style movie. Like Ocean’s Eleven or A Fish Called Wanda. But with a few familiar Star Wars characters.

ETA: It seems Lando is gonna upstage Han Solo in his own movie!

So, they’re going to add Han in post?

I dunno, the more I see his picture, the more I think the guy playing Han looks like a cheesy 1980’s low budget version of Han. Like this would be a 1984 movie named Space Pirates or something equally basic.

I think this movie should’ve been about Dash Rendar.

You can tell they were going for more of a comedy type movie just with these few clips. Of course that comedy idea was what got the first directors fired.

Those directors made The Lego Movie and 21 Jump Street, both of which are wacky comedies more like Zucker Brothers or Farrelly Brothers movies. Not appropriate for something like this (though maybe there’s room for it on less precious parts of the Star Wars universe).

Now I’m expecting Batman to turn up and steal the Millennium Falcon’s hyperdrive.

I just keep seeing it as an indiana jones adventure… right down to a faceoff with guys with swords and him going for his gun (I assume he has no issue shooting first in this version).

Ron Howard has done a lot of movies but none of them were big budget CGI Sci Fi movies. So that makes it interesting to see what he did with this.

I have a mixed reaction to the latest trailer, but more good than bad. I’m sure I’ll see the movie when it comes out; I’m a SW completist.

Looks like a fun movie to me!

Anyone else catch the irony of young Han saying “I’ve got a good feeling about this…” ?

Ha, nice catch.

I’m still all for it. Do we know for sure yet if this story will be about the 12 parsec Kessel Run?

Looks pretty good, except Harrelson, who stinks everything up.

I was coming to post that I’m both surprised and pleased to see that it doesn’t seem to be about the Kessel Run.

However, it does seem to be The Train Job.

The pivoting, twisting Train Job.

I don’t mind Harrelson so much, but when are people going to figure out that Emilia Clarke is at best a mediocre actress? I mean, she’s cute and she seems like a nice person in interviews, but in Game of Thrones everyone around her has to carry her scenes because she has absolutely no presence and her countenance varies between “vacant” and “ready to cry”, even when her character is doing absolutely bad-ass Mother-of-Dragson stuff. Whenever she shares the screen with Iain Glen or Peter Dinklage it’s quite apparent, and she sounds about the same here.

If any scene in the movie is half as entertaining as this I’ll be pleasantly surprised.

Stranger

I’m willing to bet that that space vortex with all the tentacles is in fact the Kessel Run.

If they have dropped the “cashiered imperial officer” backstory that we had in the erstwhile EU, then I’ll be disappointed.

Whats the time frame of this movie>

(Alden Ehrenreich is 28. Ford was 35 when first Star Wars premiered). So say, 12 years after Darth got deep fried?
