So you’re saying he doesn’t hold himself to as high standards as everyone else, and that means we should let him off and say “Okay, you’re a special case”. That doesn’t work for me, and it I don’t think Handy should be given concessions to post drivel. If this board is indeed his major method of interacting with people (and it should be noted that we have no idea whether it is or not), then he can go ahead and post and interact all he wants. It’s not the amount that he posts that I’m complaining about, it’s the content. It doesn’t take much to think “Is what I’m saying relevant/coherent/funny/whatever”.
It’s not about forgiveness and tolerance either - I have the exact same expectations of Handy as of any other poster. IMO, anything else is patronising. Handy’s not stupid, why should we pat him on the head and say “It’s okay, you run along with your little posts now”. Bad grammar? Fine and understandable. Excessive posting? Not a problem. Consistently posting misinformation on a message board dedicated to fighting ignorance (to quote beatle)? Not something I find endearing.
I’m well aware Handy neither posts to pit threads nor changes his behaviour in response to them. But he pisses me off and this is my chance to gripe. Sue me.
And why is it excusable? It’s not like he hasn’t had it brought to his attention before. He reminds me of a child who is reprimanded for doing something wrong, but continues to do it. I don’t know how many formal warnings he’s gotten from moderators, actually I think he got one in the “posting links to naked breasts” thread. Anyway, he’s been told what he is doing is not appreciated. He had been corrected and reminded numerous times. Yet he still continues, with no regard for the facts, or for what he’s been told is wrong.
Deafness is not an excuse.
Alas, it’s hard to take anything seriously when it comes to handy.

OK, I think we’re at an impasse here. But I will adress two comments:
I don’t know why you wouldn’t just read the threads - they’re linked right here. In the demo thread he was supported by Starbury, Whammo, &T Bill. In yours, he was backed by Caliban, casdave, Homer, dropzone, Lux Fiat & SPOOFE (on the first page - I didn’t read past there).
I’m not sure what you mean by this. I would think it is self evident that someone looking to interact with people on a message board is not looking to do so with people who find his style annoying. If I’ve missed part of your question fill me in.
But why do you (and others) assume that this message board is his primary means of human interaction? Has he said anything to suggest this?
I hope you are not thinking that he is not able to communicate with others because he is deaf. Deaf people can communicate just fine. Being deaf or hearing impaired is a handicap in that it limits the ease with which deaf people can communicate with the average hearing person–and the hearing are the vast majority. But that does not mean that the deaf are incapable of communicating with the hearing. And the deaf communicate easily amongst themselves.
Frankly, if this board is his primary means of human interaction, than being deaf is the least of his problems.
Okay, let’s settle this. Could you please drag handy into this thread, or get him to post elsewhere, pertaining to his ASL proficiency and with whom and how he communicates other than on the SDMB. For example, I believe that he runs a MB on one of his web sites (a surfing site?).
To my recollection handy has mentioned going out to parties and such. His SDPP picture was, at one point (I don’t know if it still is) a picture of him in a tuxedo at a party, though I also remember (again, can’t give you a thread where he said it) him saying that it was from about a decade ago.
Wish I could give relevant cites, but given the volume of threads to which handy’s posted and the likelihood that he would be posting this information in a thread about that subject . . .
handy has an unparalleled ability to make any thread turn into a discussion of breasts. Sometimes his answers to questions are so off-base and incorrect they seem like trolling. I do my best to ignore him.
In it, the OP was asking if there was any factual basis for the idea that low income minorities commit more crimes than others.
handy posted a piece of racist drivel, claimed it was from “fbi.gov” that he got from a ‘website I can’t mention’. and when called on it (by a couple posters, and a mod) some one else identified the site as a white power site.
IOW, he apparently knew where the data came from, and specifically posted the data but not the source, attempting to give it legitimacy by saying it was ‘fbi’ numbers. and on a controversial subject that had already attracted a noted troll.
way to go. From that point on, I haven’t bothered reading what he has to say. And I don’t say that often.
well, for my part of the exchange, I assumed that iampunha was making a joke, implying that handy was responsible for half the posts here, so that if I were skipping his, then there’s only half the board left to read.
