Hang out with me in New Orleans, dangit!

I’ll be visiting New Orleans December 6-10 to check out Tulane’s School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine and meet some professors from there on the morning of the 9th. The rest of the time I have free to explore the city, and I’d be delighted to hang out with some of y’all down there. Anybody up for it?

I can’t because I don’t live there anymore but my wife and I did go to Tulane. Great, great place. I am sure you will love it if you choose it.

Sorry I can’t meet you there, we’ll miss by exactly a month as I’m going there in January for a work meeting. Going to extend the trip a few days and have TheLadyLion join me.

Just be sure you hit Cafe du Monde. Repeatedly.

Also be sure to get a muffaletta sandwich from the Central Grocery Store on Decatur Street, and try a deliciously dangerous Hand Grenade from one of the Tropical Isle bars!

Just giving this a bump. I could swear there were a few NO Dopers - where the heck are you guys?!

I can attest that tsarina is fun to hang out with!

Even if you end up being on your own, and do nothing other than sit in Jackson Square eating beignets and people-watching, you will have a good time.

I should be in Mississippi then, and I might pop down to New Orleans in that time-span. I’ll see how I’m feeling after Thanksgiving.

Sorry, didn’t see this the first time around – I’m a NO Doper, as is whiterabbit. Email me and we’ll do something while you’re here!

Hey I live relatively nearby as well, I could go down for a little while too. I’m not sure about the dates though…

Also, if you are under 21 it might not be as much fun… :frowning:

New Orleans is kind of an adult city. I remember getting carded quite a lot last time I was there.

I’m 22, so I think I’ll do just fine.

I’d really like to go to a fancy restaurant and eat a Reveillon meal that I’ve been reading about in my travel guide. Why don’t a few of us get together and do that, and have drinks afterward?

Hey I live in Baton Rouge! You’re not creepy are you? We can drink (lots), right? I’m game! Email me!

Logan

Just in case you want to plan ahead, check these places out:

Fancy:

Bella Luna

Antoine’s restaurant

Commander’s place

Maybe not as fancy but still nice:

Cafe Degas

Not fancy at all, but the food’s great:

Mandina’s

For drinks try Snug Harbor; while you wait for the concert (if you do) take a peak across the street at the band playing at The Spotted Cat. The House of Blues is a complex of sorts including a bar, a restaurant and a concert hall. You might also like Tiptina’s

… I’m gonna let the true New Orleanians to complete the list. What other “must visit” places are there?

Forgot to add that December 6th is my 20th birthday. I won’t be bar-hopping with y’all (though you might talk me into some dance clubs) but I’d be more than happy to share a beignet at Cafe du Monde. We’ll see how my schedule works out.

Darnit, that’s finals week! :frowning: I might be able to stop in for awhile though.

Is the Funky Pirate still standing? I used to LOVE that place. Got into more trouble there than anywhere else in my life.

And, if you have a police escort (and if it’s still standing as well), Buffa’s Lounge was where I spent most of my afternoons.

I wish I could go to New Orleans. Unfortunately, I lack car and that would be the finals week. So… I’ll have to stay in Baton Rouge.

The Funky Pirate is still around - and they serve Hand Grenades (part of the Tropical Isle deal).

Karl, you must go to LSU. Me too!

The vet school, yea. I knew you were referring to the school when you mentioned finals, though.

Just to give this a bump…

Mama Tiger and possibly whiterabbit and I are meeting for dinner at the Palace Cafe (605 Canal Street in the French Quarter, although if you’re coming you probably already know that :)) at 6:00 pm on Monday the 6th. Come if you can!
