What’s so baffling about the name Hansel?
Are you talking about Hansel from “Zoolander”?
It’s no weirder than “Cinderella” or “Little Red Riding Hood”.
The Bugs Bunny cartoon Bewitched Bunny
I knew that was what you were talking about from the subject line, I remembered that scene and always thought it was funny.
I think it’s just that it’s a fairly uncommon name to hear in the US… esp Bugs being a product of 30s / 40s Brooklyn.
Also, how often do you see a character stop midstream and fixate on how random and silly another character’s name sounds?
Also-also… he’s in the middle of a story involving little kids being eaten, a witch, a house made of candy, magic, etc… and the only thing that seems to disturb him is that one character’s name sounds odd to him.
Also he is Prince Charming, there to wake sleeping beauty with his kiss. So he’s in the wrong fairy tale and that’s confusing to him.
It was the accent. Everyone had heard the name of the story before but they all pronounced the “a” like the "a’ in “cat” whereas Hansel pronounced it like the “a” in “talk”.
Ahhh you’re right, I’d forgotten that part. This was a really clever episode.
“Hansel” is the German equivalent of “Johnny”, and “Gretel” is “Peggy”. Just sayin’.
HAN-sole? Hunsle? Han-SOLE?
I wanna know, what’s the deal with the bobby pins flying around the witch?
Just that she moves so fast and has so many, they come flying off when she moves.
Nice to see I am not the only person here that understands the formal baptismal names of the kids were Hans and Margret/Margrete.
I have cousins on my Moms side named Hans and Margrete
