Hap and Leonard (TV series)

The premier episode of this new Sundance channel series will be on Wednesday night, March 2, 2016.

The series is based on the Joe Lansdale book series started in 1990. The character of Hap Collins will be played by English actor James Purefoy (of Fox’s The Following). Leonard Pine will be played by Michael K. Williams (of HBO’s The Wire, indeed, and Boardwalk Empire).

Looks promising.

No shit? That’s great news! I was Joe’s editor in the 1990s…worked on all the Hap and Leonard novels from Mucho Mojo through Captains Outrageous. We haven’t been in touch for years, and I had no idea this was happening.

Good for ol’ Joe! Brilliant writer. He deserves more fame and enough fortune that he can go diving in gold coins in his basement like Scrooge McDuck.

First episode was last night. I’m sure it will be replayed on the Sundance channel numerous times. Good dialogue, great acting, although it sounds as if James Purefoy (English actor) is struggling with his East Texas accent. Michael K. Williams is a delight, as always.

Looks like this season will follow Lansdale’s first novel in the series.

I don’t know anything about the book series, but I’ll watch Christina Hendricks in anything. I’m in.

Wow! May I touch the hem of your garment? Lansdale is great.

I’m not sure we get the Sundance Channel, but I’m definitely going to look for the show.

The premiere was overstuffed with exposition, and Purefoy’s accent was distracting, but the characters are charismatic and there’s a real sense of setting, of a particular time and place. I plan to stick with it.

I’m liking it. One hopes that all fans of the late, lamented Justified will be willing to give this one a try (though certainly it’s no clone of that show).

It was sooo slow. The pulp practically drips from my tv. I’m in!

One year late, but I have to resurrect this thread. I caught the 6 episode series over the last few days. I’m at work and can’t remember what streaming venue I watched it under. I really liked it! Has anyone else seen this? It looks like Season 2 started last week. I’ll have to see if I can stream that somewhere as well!
